Amiga USB to HiMD???
« on: June 09, 2004, 03:04:44 AM »
here's a silly one.....

I just picked up a SONY MZ-NH-600D HiMD recorder.
http://www.minidisco.com/mz-nh600d.html

The docs say it is 100% windows ONLY. I do have to run winderz (in emulation I SWEAR!) to do music transfers.

I use Macs and Amigas in my houshold!!!

So I plugged the USB cable into my Mac and BAM it showed up as a device called NO NAME and gave me 1GB of removable storage!!

If I add USB (take your pick of cards) to my A4000, will it be able to access the MD recorder?? I could sure use a 1GB removable drive on it that doubles as a music player!!

Suggestions anyone?

Thanks! :-?

oh, and just to clarify, HiMD is the latest incarnation of Sony's 10 year old Mini Disc format which has grown from one hour capacity to around 45 hours compressed.

And in the HiMD format, it allows the discs to work as 1GB FAT formated.

DO any other Amiga users have one?

Dude you're on the cutting edge. I don't think HiMD has been
released in the UK yet. I'm interested in one but I don't think I can afford it - I like the fact they can now record at full CD quality uncompressed. As for working with Amigas I didn't know you can get USB for Amiga - but if they work as a 1Gb storage device that would be "cool"!

If it identifies itself as a massstorage device, it will work with the Amiga as painless as with your Mac.

Surely you won't be able to remote control the recorder, you can only access the files on the medium.

Hi :-)

You made a good buy :-)

The HiMD is a masstorage device and will work (normally) with the Amiga as a 1GB removable HD.

With the small price of the disks it will be a huge success I'm sure :-)

I will have one shortly and will make some tests with my USBized Amiga 4000 (see my profile to know more), I will let you know the results :-)

Oh, yes I work for Sony :-D but don't repeat it ;-)

thatnks man!!
I can testify that HiMD is a fantastic format! Sony even improved SS2.0 a bit!

I picked mine up at the Sony Style store here in Houston (the Galleria!). All I need now are some HiMD blanks.....

Sounds encouraging, I may have to get a USB card for my A4000 then! The 600D is NOT a speed demon, but it's MORE than adequet.

And if anyone here wants to get one, www.minidisco.com is a great company that I've ordered from for YEARS....

Oh, yeah- I'll be watching to see your A4000 USB results, should be intresting!

Thanks! :-)
