How replace internal floppy drive on A500 with PC-floppy?
« on: June 03, 2004, 07:14:02 PM »
Hi,

PLEASE can me somebody help, what should I do, when can I replace the old NOT-WORKING (bad) internal floppy disk drive in Amiga 500 with a new pc-floppy drive (standard 1,44MB 3,5' disk drive used on today PC's) ?
I read somewhere that some OLD pc's drives with lots of jumpers can be configured to work with Amiga, but i CANNOT found such a old one with jumpers (and it would also be soon bad - old).
New pc-drives have no jumpers :(
Can me please help somebody, if is it possible and how...?
Many thanks.

I wrote some crappy but usable instructions on converting the older Panasonic JU257 drives a while ago.
It's also possible to use other drives with other modifications.

Look here: http://amiga.serveftp.net

In the floppy drive conversion section.

The following PC disk drives work with the Amiga 500 and 2000 computers:

Teac FD-235HF 3201-U
Teac FD-235HF 3217-U
Teac FD-235HF 3240-U5
Chinon FZ-354

The DoomMaster submitted a picture, here on Amiga Org in the Images area, showing how to set the jumpers on the Teac disk drives.  It is in the Amiga 2000 Images area.

Amiga 2000 disk drives will also work.  Just remove the face-plate on the Amiga 2000 drive and then swap the metal covers and the eject buttons.  Handle the disk drives very carefully when doing this.
My favorite TV shows:  Star Trek Voyager, Forever Knight, Stargate SG1, Married with Children, As Time Goes By, Mr. Bean, Smallville, The Six Million Dollar Man, and Xena
