Wireless Networking on the Amiga
« on: March 21, 2004, 09:17:26 AM »
I'm trying to set a wireless home network. The PC's are fine. The only problem I have is as far as I can tell no wireless network cards are supported by the Mediator.

The only other way I can see of doing it is to connect a normal network card to a wireless access point or something.

if you have a WirelessAccessPoint with a UTP/RJ45 connection then sure, that's one way.

just thinking, what about getting a usb hub thingy, and then using a USB stick wireless device...

I wrote Elbox about the very same question. The reply was that if I could find a wireless networking card with the supported chipset, then it should work.

He said that using a USB wireless netcard wasn't recommendable; but I quite don't knwo why.

I'm going through the same problem here, and I think I will just hook up an accesspoint instead.

Let me know if you find a wireless networking card for use in Mediator.

Glad this subject has been bought up again, it was something I was thinking a while back.

I asked this question on the Amiga-Hacks Yahoo group, but got no reply, so maybe someone here could answer it.

Since many(all?) wireless PCMCIA cards won`t work with the Amiga`s PCMCIA slot, what about the Compact Flash type WLAN cards??
Wouldn`t it be possible to put one of them in a Compact Flash to PCMCIA adapter and use it that way?
I know software is a problem, but there is at least one adapter with linux code and docs available for it.
On schedule, and suing

The cards I'm using on my PC are RTL 8180 based, I have no idea how different these are from the Realtek 8139 cards 100mb cards supported.

I emailed Elbox about it and they referred me the network card page. Sometimes its a bit tricky to find out what chipset is used in a card.

Having said that I think that the easiest option in the Wireless Bridge, thanks for the link Jason.
