How were you able to partition the drive if HDtoolbox kept reporting "no slot"?  That suggests it cannot see the controller.

The CIAs have nothing to do with the hard drive controller, which is a seperate board in the A2000.  It has no motherboard IDE or SCSI that I know of.

I'd start by looking at your SCSI/IDE controller and hard drive.

Do you have OS 3.1 in ROM?  If not, it's usually not a good idea to use a workbench or version higher than the OS version.

You might need to give us a bit more information.

I partitioned the drive with the  scram2000 prep disk first.

Then I rebooted with the install disk: or disk 1 of os3.1 and formatted and installed 3.1.
I have the 3.1 rom installed but, in hdtoolbox in 3.1 It doesn`t show any drives or anything in the window and when I click on hdsetup it says no card slot.

Workbench works fine just cant do anything to do with the hard drive.

If I remember correctly, hdtoolbox is only set to see certain scsi devices. If the hd card isn't using scsi.device, you might need to modify the tooltype for hdtoolbox to let it know what the device name is. (Don't remember the tooltype, but it might be in the wb3.1 manuals.)

I think the error is telling you that it simply can't find a device and therefore thinks no controller is pressent.

Keep your fingers away from hdsetup and anything else in this directory. HDToolBox is the only program you need, if any. If you have successfully partitioned the HDD and installed WB3.1 on it, why aren't you happy ? Using HDToolbox or any other partitioning tool will destroy the data on the HDD, why do you want to do this ?

However, to use HDToolbox on a third-party hdd controller, you need to tell it the name of the driver. The default name is "scsi.device", which obviously is not the driver name for your controller. Check your controller's documentation to find out the correct name. Then open HDToolBox' icon information and change "(SCSI_DEVICE_NAME=scsi.device)" into "SCSI_DEVICE_NAME=your_controller.device", i.e. remove the brackets and correct the name.

Bye,
Thomas
