A1200 Motherboard in A600 case?

Would it be possible to put this Motherboard

Obviously removing the serial ports and rewiring them so they can sit in the A600 port holes.
Is there any other problems anyone can forsee doing this?

Nope...it just doesn't fit. You'd have to saw a bit of the A1200 mobo. Even with the loose mouseport PCB removed.

Saw which bit? The only obstruction i can see is the two serial ports in the top right hand corner which can be removed via sawing them off and rewiring the tracers.

Go for it Whitesnake. It might not work, but if you can spare an A1200 motherboard to toy with I'd say it was worth it. That would be one cool piece of kit if it worked!  :-D

Dude, I hate to burst your bubble, but the A600 case is several inches too short to accept the A1200 motherboard.  Notice how the A600 has no number pad on the right side?

That makes its overall dimensions much too small for your project.  A shame too; such a thing would have sold well, if Commodore had ever produced one.

I know the A600 has the no keypad on the right hand side that is what makes it small that is the idea.
As i have said before above i would be removing the two serial ports  at the top right hand corner and rewiring them thus making the pcb the same width as the A600 pcb when then two ports are removed.

You might have success putting a micro atx PeeCee MB into an A600 case. With a laptop hardrive and onboard video that would make a cool-as-beans UAE or AROS setup. OF course, what would you do about the keyboard..

Even without the PCB with the mouse/joyports (and not serial ports :-)) it would still be to wide (at least that's what I'm guestimating, I'll measure the A1200 mobo tonight or tommorow).

I think with cutting off both of the joystick ports, it just might fit.  But, you'd have a severly neutered A1200 since you couldn't use the CPU slot (ie. no accellerators, fast memory, etc.)  Then there is the keyboard problem.  I haven't tried, but the keyboard cables look different.

 I wouldn`t bother.
 For a start the motherboard is multilayered, you`d have to track back any traces in the middle layers to a via and solder wires to replace them.
 You`ll probably also have a big problem fitting the A600 internal floppy, as it`ll be right over the connectors for the A1200`s floppy data & power cables and the LED connector.

I wouldn't say the multilayering would be too much of an issue if you're just lopping off the end of the "L" as it only contains traces for the controller ports (Yeah, not serial ports, you've been looking at PCs too long  :-P ), but you will have a problem with the keyboard. The matrix is different, so it won't plug in and work, no matter what way you wiggle the cable. What you'll have to do there is take the cable connector from teh A600 Motherboard, trace all the connections to the keyboard controller chip, and then remaking the same connections to the A1200 chip. And that's assuming the decoder chip is the same on both, cos I'm not too sure. Go for it by all means, but this, and the problems with connector locations mentioned above, will make it very tricky indeed!
