Monitor brightness too high: can't see the black color!
« on: May 11, 2004, 07:47:38 PM »
I have this Nokia 446Pro monitor I've had for around two years now. I got it cause it has probably one of the highest contrast ratios I've seen. The brightness had to be almost zero for the black color to be black though. And when the monitor was turned on the image was more bright, but got prograssively more dark after sometime. But I think this is normall in CRT monitors, at least trinitrons? Yesterday I turned it on and it was even more bright, and even zero brightness after some time won't make the black color go black. It gets more dark after say 10 minutes or more but still not black. It's practically black though, but I want the image as before. I also noticed that the image position and shape has changed, but some other definitions have remained as they were.
Could this be the Gfx card on the erm.. PC? I use this monitor occasionaly on on A1200 with super72 mode and had the same problem, but with the PC it was ok. Now I get the same problem on both. :pissed:  It's defenitly not a settings problem.

I don't know if this will help but I have a Compaq Qvision 210 monitor tht has two inputs. One is a normal VGA -> VGA  input and the other is a VGA -> BNC type connector.

I can switch between them by pressing a button on the fron to the monitor. One is connected to my A1 the other to my PC

I found that the brightness was much too high on the BNC side when the VGA side needed the controls set to full brightness.

I ended up going into the advanced colour options for my graphics card on the PC and selected a lower brightness setting for (cough)Windows(Cough).

You could try and change the colour/brightnes settings in windows and see if that can work as a temporary fix.

Hi. Doesn't work. And still this wouldn't solve the too bright problem on the A1200.
Do you also get a brighter image when the monitor is first turned on? (maybe that's not comparable cause it's not a trinitron...)

No mine starts dark and gradually gets brighter untill it is at its set level. Takes about 5 seconds.

I mean after a longer time. Mine is clearly darker after 10 minutes.
Better make something for the problem to get worse so that I can take advantage of the warranty before it's too late :-o
