First remove the disk drive from the computer. Then carefully remove the front plastic faceplate. Make sure that you do not break off the plastic tabs that hold the faceplate on. Next remove the metal cover. There are three screws, one on each side and one in the top rear. Now very carefully slide the drive out of the metal cover. Use canned air and blow out the dust. DO NOT SHAKE THE CAN AND DO NOT TILT THE CANNED AIR MORE THEN 30 DEGREES WHILE BLOWING OUT THE DUST FROM THE DISK DRIVE! Use long-wooden handled cotton swabs and WATER to clean the plastic disk glide pathes on the sides. DO NOT USE ALCOHOL ON THE PLASTIC PARTS AND DO NOT TOUCH THE HEADS! Re-assemble the disk drive and install it back into the Amiga. Now use a "head-cleaning disk" and cleaning fluid to clean the heads. Apply 3 to 5 drops of the cleaning fluid to the cleaning disk. It should be nice and wet. Now insert the cleaning disk into the disk drive. Use an Amiga disk drive cleaning PROGRAM (found on Aminet) to get the disk spinning in the drive. When cleaning the heads with the cleaning disk, the drive MUST spin for between 20 to 30 seconds. Remove the cleaning disk and let the heads "dry out" for at least 5 minutes before using the drive.
