The Anims i created in True Brilliance I used to save as 24bit pictures and then load em into Infochannels (Scala) AnimLAB  and  compile em into either Anim16 or 32 .. Depending which looked better

You could be right. Version 2.3 is now available on Aminet, though I think it says that registered owners of version 1.xx can upgrade to v2.3 using this release.

Don't know if that makes it available to everyone (?). Worth a try tho'.

This is one great piece of software!

It may not even be physicly possible to replay a 24-bit anim that big (640x512). You'll need a 22MB/sec throughput and chances are that the memory/bus won't deliver.

Ironincally, given some tests some people have made, the current PCI Amiga busboards peak at around 10mhb/s !! A good zorro 3 card like the PicassoIV or Cybervision can take around 30mb/S. The Cybervion PPC that used the PPC cards own bus is also fast.
With a completely raw, uncompressed HAM8 anim one would get one third of the speed needed because HAM8 uses only 8bits.

But didn't anim format have some form of delta to copy only the data the changes? This would lower the needed speed much too in some cases.

That reminds me, where is that Promo/Mediator comparison? To be honest, 10MB/s is so poor....

A bit off-topic, but being a software junkie I have just a whole pack of anim players and makers. I really enjoyed making long anims with Photon Paint 2....ya, lo res but fun. I was wondering if Clarissa was any good? I had some version of it from a disk mag but it never started up on my machines for some reason(faulty disk?)Likewise Anim Workshop looked great but it required some kind of software key and since I bought the thing from a cut-out pile and the company had folded, I never got IT to start. I suppose the best Anim prog I used was Animation Station, a great piece o'work. Really easy to use for editing anims.
My wife discovered that she could use my Supergen to record her Datastorm games and play back in slo-mo to see what had killed her!

Yes, I've got ClariSSA v2. It was a clever idea at the time. It smooths out Amiga anims by first converting them into Interlace format (unless already interlaced). It then separates the alternate video lines of each frame into two semi-frames and displays them sequencially. This is very effective and the results are very silky. You can also join several anims together and do various manipulations on them, loops, forward/reverse, etc.

The output is a proprietory SSA (Super Smooth Animation) format which can only be viewed through ClariSSA or its portable player module. A bit like MainActor in that context. However, I don't think you can alter the frame timings or add soundFX. That's why I prefer MainActor, but ClariSSA is certainly a good piece of software.

If you are using Cinema4D, then it comes with a utility called AnimGen which will take your 24 bit rendered frames and make an anim out of them.  This can be played back with pretty much most anim players.  I don't remember if the resulting animation is 24 bit (I've just moved house so I am not able to check this for you.)  I have found that there are things that you can do to improve playback speed: it depends what your needs are.  I have found that Ham8 anims run pretty quickly and look pretty good if you use lower resoltions with alot of antialiasing when you render.  Also you should use Anim7 format which improves speeds.  clarissa defiantely improves play back speed but the version I have used V2 does not do 24 bit or even ham8 anims.  you must convert it to 256 colors with alot of dithering and you must make your anim as laced video resoltion, which clarissa can do for you. If outputting to VHS then even 256 color anims can look ok and you will get decent playback speed.  I have played the same C4D anims that come with C4D ( I have both PC and Amiga versions of c4D) on a PC and the Ham8 versions on amiga and I can honestly say there is no noticeable difference in quality or playback speed.  Remember that as every frame will have a unique palette and the frames will play back quickly one after another alot of the color limitations that you see in the frames individually may not be noticeable when playing back.
