Anyone managed to have BlizzardPPC040/240 on desktop A1200?
« on: January 09, 2003, 07:57:04 PM »
Not that I have one, but tempting deals appear sometimes.
I was wondering if anyone has managed to run a BlizzardPPC 040/240 in an A1200 desktop?
What about with the trapdoor closed?
Ok, what about with the trapdoor closed and with an 040 40mhz in it(wich runs hot)? :-D
The idea of a very powerfull A1200 desktop is appealing to me. I don't like big cases, and I really like the Classic.
Cheers

It can be done, but not with the trapdoor on. You'll
probably have to raise it up off the desk a bit and
use an external power source for the fan(s).

while i dont really have any concrete answers for you, id be curious to know.

last i heard, you needed a case for such a proccesor, mainly because of the heat and power-

even for a 1240-1260 you need to get a stronger power supply and a cooler enviorment.

i was aware of a recent poll about who would preffer the 1200 look when Aone comes along- i voted Maybe.

there certainly is appeal to a stocky keyboard which includes al else in it and a monitor

i would like to find out myself if there are availabe solutions.

if some one knows more help this decent dude
and remember
no bong hits till all soildering is done and tested 18 times! :-x  8-)  :-)  ;-)  :-D

I friend of mine has an A1200 PPC  040 * Bvision running in a desktop case. It´s possible, but you will have lots of troubles with the Power Supply, and system hangs by temperature may occur as well.

Take it in a tower.

Wow! He probably took off the disk drive. I know I'm gonna try that out sooner or later, I'll let you know if it burned or not!

It can be done indeed saw various ppl who done it.

Friends of mine had an 603e 210Mhz with 040/25+bvision in the A1200
desktop, and even when de cooling fan died it still just kept working.
Now they have an 060/50+603e 240Mhz+scsiII+bvision in the A1200
desktop and it also works fine.

keep the trapdoor open and make sure there is plenty space (>2 CM),
between the miggy and the desk, and it will work just fine.
And modify a PC AT PSU since the original will not do by far.
Towering your A1200 would make much more sense since you also can get
access to Zorro/PCI expansion boards

My PPC A1200 is nicely towered in an elbox power tower with a Zorro
IV+mediator ZIV,bvision and lots more :-D

Btw i had an Apollo 040/40 about 3 years ago in my A1200 when it was
still a desktop and it worked fine with the trapdoor closed, but a
small cooler on the 040/40 cpu is a must in that case.
Amiga is addictive coz it is fun to use
