A1200 Harddrives
« on: April 02, 2004, 04:23:05 AM »
I have an A1200............
I want to put a harddrive in it.
I was looking on EBay for a drive.
The question is.. what kind of drive?
I know its a 2 1/2 drive.
Will just about any laptop drive work ?
Or do I need something special?

What do I need here...........???
Stealth ONE  8-)

Any laptop (2.5") drive should work, but the best one I had was an
IBM "TravelStar" series (dead-silent).

yeah any 2.5inch laptop drive, really for best fit in a standard A1200 case.

and i'll go with the IBM travelstar drives! dead quiet!

s'pose i'm kinda lucky cos i work in support, and when ever someone wants their laptop upgraded i have the old hard disk out and put in another one.

got a few IBM drives 512Mb, 6Gb, and two 12Gb's (one of the 12s is in my 1200 ;) and a couple of fujistu 10-12Gb and a 3Gb hitachi drive. the hitachi drive scared the hell out of me.

power on:-
NREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE*CHUG**CHUG**CHUG*EEEEEEEEEEEE*CHUG*EEEEE*CHUG*EEEEEEEEEEEEE etc.

never heard anything like it outside of a full height 3.5inch seagate barracuda ultra scsi drive (comes with own cooling fans)

some weird reason tho, maybe its OS3.0, but can only reference the first 8Gb of the disk?

A500, A600, A1200x3, A2000, A3000, A4000 & a CD32.
and probably just like the rest of you, crates full of related "treasure" for the above XD

I used a Sygate laptop drive in my amiga a1200 - worked lovely for ages untill i towered it, now runs on full size HDD's.

At least i never had any problems with it...
