A1200NG Accelerator and A4000NG Announced at AmiWest 2025
« on: November 02, 2025, 08:05:25 AM »
Hi everyone,

At AmiWest 2025, Trevor Dickinson announced an A1200NG accelerator boosting its performance... The A4000NG was also mentioned. You can watch the stream here:

https://www.youtube.com/live/fOFAhcV2dxg?si=f98sQxdrORApooeT&t=2000

It will take a few minutes to reach the news about the A1200NG accelerator, but you can skip forward. :)

He says it goes in the trapdoor slot....
I see no bus connector on the A1200 NG motherboard. Nor any mention of this kind of future expansion capability on any of the marketing materials. Is this a slip-up ? Or does he mean it fits the trapdoor slot of a regular A1200 to give it these "NG" capabilities?

I suspect he means it will connect to the headers where the orange pi is at the moment.

That answer doesnt make sense logically or semantically.

Logically
If it were true then you could just get a faster Orange PI since the headers would be compatible, it wouldnt need a new accellerator card to be designed. There is a range of Orange PI's with 26 pin headers and another with 40 pin - i dont know which the NG uses at the moment, worst case scenario you'd need a ribbon cable  - if there was a size/shape constraint for example.

Semantically
A new Orange Pi is a New single board computer not an accelerator.

While the they are pin for pin. The board needs to be reversed on more powerful boards (to fit in trapdoor) and some pins are missing. So a carrier board would be needed to make up for location and missing pins, etc etc.
I have already prototyped a carrier board, which works. So technically, it could be classed as a sort of accelerator.

Shame the audio is missing, it runs flawless with no stuttering or frameskip.
