Greaseweasle issues A1200NG
« on: May 09, 2025, 04:48:43 PM »
Try as I might I'm not having much success with floppy drives. Amiga drives which work fine in classic systems don't work (it's like no power is getting to them). PC drives work but I then get the message not a DOS disk (used workbench disks). So I've run out of options / drives.
Any thoughts / suggestions ?

Hi,

Sorry to hear about the floppy disk problems. Is this in AmiBench or in a custom Classic Amiga setup? Which options have you ticked in "Customise Floppy Drive Setup"? I can take a photo of how mine looks (which is working with an original drive from Amiga 1200) if you want. :)

All setups.
Would appreciate a snapshot of your set up just in case but all I’m doing is select greaseweasle and then either Amiga drive or pc drive, the later I’ve used a twisted cable. But nothing seems to play ball.

Some good news. After much trial and tribulation I got a converted pc drive to work, not ideal because of the case, but at least greaseweasle works.
The Amiga drives which work in my classics wouldn’t play ball nor a couple of pc drives.
I’ve got a box of Amiga floppy drives somewhere, presumably A500 drives will work, which I’ll dig out and go through methodically when I get time.
But for the time being thank you for your help and excellent blog.

No problem! :) Glad to be of help! Good to read that you got a converted PC drive to work. Have you tried any others afterwards?

I finally found Amiga and PC drives that worked and opted for an Amiga drive (a) for authenticity and (b) fits in the wedge case.
This experience is typical of mixing old and new. The Amiga keyboard I’ve used isn’t fully functioning but for my use is fine and I’m not going shell out £200 for a new one.
