Cyberstorm probs mk1 060 rev6
« on: March 07, 2022, 08:05:44 PM »
I have an A4000/040 rev B. ZZ9000 gfx card and corsair SF450 PSU (so 450Watts). Motherboard professionally recapped. I recently bought a PhaseV Cyberstorm mk1 with 060 rev6 and 64MB. Kick 3.2. Fan is running so heat is being managed. The casing is removed.

The problem is that the card seems to be a bit unstable. I run WB - get resets after a few minutes. Removed the memory module and made it a bit more stable. Not quite yet. So running without the mem mod. I figured why not let it run with just the bootscreen on. So no OS is loaded. Drive is clicking but after a few minutes (10ish) the system confronts me with a Software Failure : Error: 8100 00FF Task: 07003308  So I cleaned the connectors with iso and that extended the time a bit (it seems so anyway :) ). But still the same failure

So no the question remains - what to do? Is it the 3.2 kickstart? Or is that fine and should I try using the latest WB version with the PhaseV libs? Or is it a hardware problem?

Did not do I fresh install due to the fact that even in the kickstart/bootscreen a Software Failure appears, something must be fundamentally wrong

cheers..

Verify +5v at the motherboard connector,it should be 4.92v or better
check and make sure its seated properly. are the plastic standoffs the correct length?
you might try and clean the accelerator/motherboard socket with contact cleaner.
pull all cards but the cyberstorm and test it if you haven't already.
Maybe change the oscillator to slow it down and see if its stable? what speed is it now?
are you using the scsi?
revert the amiga back to 3.1 roms and test(although i don't suspect this is anything to do with the problem).

Thanks for the pointers. I'll try to check them.

Good one on the standoffs. The fit on the SMmk1 seems loosely.

Weird thing is. I wanted to test the stability of the previous state to be sure it's only the CMmk1 is causing this. To my surprise I'm getting a Software Failure (8000 0004) with the A3660 card I always had installed (only cold boot). Always, never happened before. Then it boots and the system seems to work stable (doing a memtest with AmigaTestKit = fine) as we speak and it's doing it for 20 minutes now. I've ordered some DIAGROMS as well. Removing the ZZ card did not help to get it stable. As did removing the FastATA 4000 controller.

Can I use ISO for cleaning those connectors? Or some Electronic Contact Cleaner that's plastic friendly... So the card AND the CPU insert? Wait a bit and try again? TY!
