Question about 2.8 Gold for vampire
« on: March 25, 2018, 03:22:08 AM »
It looks like a 2.8 Gold core and 1.2 sagadrivers are out on the official wiki.

the 2.8 Gold has x10 x11 and for 2.7 x12 versions.  Which should one use?

Also just for the record I absolutely love the 2.7 core so far.... no problems at all and stable.

No idea.  Was wondering myself what it all meant.  2.7 was not so good for me, as the RTG video kept dropping out randomly, along with other video glitching.  2.8 seems to have fixed it.

Such issues are not core related but more related to your monitor tolerance.

This is usually easy to solve by changing a little the "Clock (MHz)" setting using the Picasso96Mode tool.

Also you might need eventually UMC to define better suited resolutions to your monitor : http://aminet.net/package/driver/video/umc

2.9 is imminent (possibly later today) so probably best to hang on for that or stick with 2.7 for a little while longer if you are running the x12 core, are happy with it and don't need the latest fixes and features yet (mostly alternative ROM mapping functions in 2.9 it seems, changelog).

@Thread  Thanks, as always everyone here is helpful :)

I also want to say to the vampire team, thanks for all the excellent work and continued support.   I know that the 2.7 gold thread got a bit contentions at times, but I consider the vampire the most initiative thing to come to amiga in a long time.  I have been using my vampirized A2000 more than any other amiga in many many years.

Looks like 2.9 is mostly for those aiming to run EmuTOS (or use the motherboard kickstart chip instead of the "built in" kickstart on the Vampire? A step in the direction of not needing licensed kickstart?)

This would be quite nice, particularly in a stand alone V4 configuration.  A 1 Meg or even more rom would also be nice.
