Final Writer on OS4.1FE
« on: January 24, 2018, 03:54:43 PM »
There is very little on the emulations part of OS4.  Every thing I have read says, it is just suppose to work if the app is written for the OS and doesn't make chip calls.  So I have been playing around trying to get old apps to work cause I paid a lot of money for them back in the day.  I just copied my Finalwriter directory off my 4000.  When I clicked on Finalwriter icon to launch it, nothing would happen.  So I got looking around and in fwfiles there is the fw.prefs file.  I renamed that to fw.prefs.old.  I clicked on FW icon and it worked.  It seems to be the screen resolution that won't let the old apps run that are written for the OS.

With this in mind, I have been successful with getting the following running with just copying the dir over to OS4 without going through installing them from floppy or floppy image.

Finalwriter
FinalCalc
DynaCad
ProCalc

I have been trying to get Pagestream 5.0 to work but I keep getting the grim reaper.

Hi cehofer,

What are you running OS4 on?

Is it 4.1 FE on an NG machine or Classic on Winuae  or AmigaForever?

I can't remember if Pagestream 5.0 ever finally got released natively for OS 4.x but there were problems at one time.

Anything that doesn't 'bang the metal' should, in theory, work under Petunia but I've had varying results with that.

Have you tried running it in Runinuae?

Fred

AmigaOne XE PPC7451 800MHz 2Gig memory

No, I have not tried Pagestream in uae.  I have read on the net that people have gotten it to work on OS4 but no details as to how.

I have been a long time supporter of Pagestream back PS3, PS4 and PS5.  I even have the Windoze version.

Also, have you updated the OS?

Runinuae is on the CD if you haven't got it installed, by the way.

What do you mean update the OS?  I have looked for an update 1 for my FE but I do not see any for A1XE.  I only see mention of one for the X5000.

I have installed all the extras and purchased the enhancement CD too.  If there is an update to A1XE 4.1FE please let me know where I can get it.  I don't get anything via amiupdater

I solved Pagestream 4.0.8 running native on OS4.1FE.  I tried to install via the CD.  I got an immediate error saying that the Font:_bullet:plugin.types was missing required for truetype fonts.  I copied the _bullet and _bullet_outlines to fonts from my A4000 and Pagestream opened no problem.  I was able to open previously created documents.

The only thing I had to do was assign the directories of Pagestream in the user-startup.  I need to mention that I did this without installing from the CD.  I just copied my PS dir from the A4k.

The OS Updater should have automatically have offered to update for you the next time you used your XE after the update came out, or on first use after installing the OS if that was at a later date.

Mine did, and mine is an XE too.

At one stage, and I can't remember if this is the case still, there was a means of turning off the JIT per program, as some programs wouldn't run with it on.

Welcome to AmigaOne X5000, cehofer.

I bought an A1X5K a few months ago and have been getting to know it pretty well.  There are bugs, for sure.  Reading your threads I decided to reply to this one first.  They've done a good job with making it A4000-like.  Good idea with copying from A4000 and adding assigns first.  Don't bother with CDs and floppies if it works with your A4000 3.x.  Always go that way, first, as you're noticing and add to the S:User-Startup.

I'm going to look again at my PageStream also, and check it.

If and When you want to get the E-UAE Emulator running, don't settle for what's stock installed from the Extras CD.  It's too limiting and very, very, verrrrrry slow even for the speedy X5000.  I've updated the package and have it running my Classic A4000 stuff very well...minus my CSPPC's zer060 and PPC.  The front end RunInUAE needs updating because it causes the emulation to slow.  When emulation is running, exit RunInUAE and the speed will be back.  It's a tip... Hehe.

 FinalWriter is cool.
