There could still be some life left in Amiga and the Thylacine :p

Some have been spotted in the wild but all reports are un-confirmed :)

magnetic, only on Amibay at the moment, 6th batch selling out now

Az
Completely useless? I can always be used as a bad example

Just to bump this old thread of mine, I finally got around to digging out a spare CF card and formatting it with nothing but Workbench 3.1, MUI, and the Poseidon USB stack. Booting off that I was able to get a generic USB keyboard to work, but not a mouse. The mouse was detected but if I tried to move it the pointer would just disappear. The keyboard worked okay, but was a bit sluggish. Not really sure what else I can do with the card at this point, but would be interested in hearing if anyone else has managed to get one working properly in an A2000? Seems my 040 just doesn't have the oomph, or it's the ZII bus. I suspect most users are on A3000/A4000...

Anyone know where I can track down a copy of the original Thylacine disk? The link on amiga.resource.cx for Thylacine1.3.lha is dead. Might give that a shot and skip Poseidon, see if I have any better luck.

Also FYI the guy building them on Amibay is now starting to take pre-orders for a four-port version. Not cheap though!

Hi,

I have been having exactly the same problem with the newly-built Thylacine on an A3000 with 68040 - i.e. very sluggish (slideshow-style) performance culminating to complete lock-ups. This thread was the only other place I had come across that reported this type of behavior so now that I've solved it I thought I'd report what I did.

I was getting this behavior as soon as Trident (Poseidon's GUI) went online. I found some time to attempt re-installing it on a clean WB install and noticed that the Thylacine installation script sets up the startup-sequence (or user-startup, not sure now) so that its own (rudimentary) USB stack starts on bootup. When I removed the offending line from S-S (or U-S, whichever applies) and rebooted Poseidon worked well and is actually quite usable. I managed to connect various devices (a microsoft usb mouse and a d-link ethernet dongle) on a powered USB hub and for the first time even to transfer some files from a USB stick. What I know suspect was causing the lockups was the fact that I was in fact running two USB stacks at the same time.

I thought I'd leave this information here for others who may have as careless as I was when installing it. Many thanks and have a great new year!

Mike,

My original Thylacine works fine in my A2000 rev. 6.2b.  Your system sounds awfully close in horsepower specs to mine.  I am running a PP&S A2000/040 @ 33MHz using the Thor MULibs suite.  I use a GuruROM equipped a2091 w/14MHz hack and SCSI2SD v6 for my storage.  I have a DKB Megachip and Indivision ECS as well.  I get a consistent 1.75 MB/sec transfer rate via the SCSI setup.  There is a little DMA lag (mouse pointer ratchets while the Poseidon stack is recognizing and reading the directory structure of my memory stick, but once the initial read is complete, works like a champ.  Pretty impressive considering the ZII is all I have going for me, as the 040 has no onboard SCSI controller and all the storage access has to traverse the bus.

Hey Mike I had similar problems with the Spider 2 on my mediator and my RapidRoad. I resolved it all by just  starting over with a clean install. Never figured out why though.

If your willing to send me the card I can test it out on my machines as well for you and see how it responds. I've got one of every big box now for just these types of situations. I'll be gone and out of touch for a week until June 8th, but would have family at my house to receive if your comfortable with it.

This thread is super old.  I sold the Thylacine years ago for an X-Surf 100 + RapidRoad and never looked back. Thanks though!

heheheh I'm holding on to my Thylacine for my 2000.  I just feel bad putting a Zorro III card in the 2000.  Even with the Blizzard 2060 running the show.

I know, I know... I just figured what the heck.  I am re-learning stuff after 15 years away from the scene and thought maybe it still mattered.:)

I was searching the web for an answer on some obscure Amiga question the other day, found a thread that was pretty on point, and as I was reading a really detailed response from 2001, I realized it was my response to a post from back then.  Funny but sad.
