Boot issue

i've got an A590 connected to my A500.
I also have a scsi ZIP drive connected to de a590.

It works fine, but it gives some trouble with a cold start.
I get de purple disk boot logo instead of booting up from de hdd.
With a warm reset it boots fine.
Is it possible to fix this bug and how?

Sounds like it could be a slow spin-up issue with your hdd. Was that same configuration working okay before today?

No, got this "problem" from the beginning.

It's the slow spin up issue. Very common in Amiga's. Try upgrading to 3.1 (which I believe has a longer wait period) or replace your hard drive with a modern, faster one. CF and SD adapters (including ones that work in an A590) are dirt cheap.

True, some SCSI controllers have this issue with some drives, and some don't. The A590 was launched very early, and seems to insist on fast resetting drives, fast spin up drives. It's not only slow drives that can have the issue, some 10K drives take a little while to spin up to full speed.

Some much more modern PCs and laptops have a similar issue when booting from USB devices - will never boot from cold, only from warm, because the device is busy self checking when it should be booting.

It's probably a hardware hack to fix it on the controller, using a different drive would be an easier way around it.

You could also measure and check that your hard drive receives 12v. Anything below 11.5v  will cause problems. It could be that your power supply is insufficient to spin the drive up within reasonable time. Do you have a seperate supply for the A590? I ask because some people run them from the Amiga power which could be a cause (psu not designed for this).

There should be a jumper on the 590 to increase the startup delay - precisely so that slow drives have time to spin up. But then you'll have to deal with the delay on a warm boot as well.

In addition to 3.1, consider bringing your 590's ROMs up to v7.

I'll have a look on this. If i remember correct, it already has rom v7

solved, had to put dip switch 3 on. Boots fine now.
