Arduino Powered Floppy Reader now also Writes Disks too!
« on: September 17, 2017, 09:35:14 PM »
Hi Everyone

This is a a followup to previous thread but seperate thread so not to confuse responses.

New version (full source code included) is now available.  Not only does this noe read disks better, it can now also write them too!

For those that didn't see this before, this is an Arduino powered solution that can create ADF disks images from real floppy disks, and also now write them back to floppy disks.

All information, circuit diagrams, source code etc can be found at http://amiga.robsmithdev.co.uk

Its all open source (GPL licence) - enjoy

really cool and open source too! I already own a Catweasel MK4+ which is absolutely great but if I didn't have one I'd pick up an arduino and my soldering iron to make this unit

I need to keep my eye on this.
Congratulations, how much do you think it would cost for the hardware?

Hi, if you source 'compatiable' arduino parts from eBay and have an old PC floppy drive and cable around then you can build the whole thing for about 10-15$ (£10 gbp) approx

Hm, I imagine using usb storage as a possible simple generic way to interface with it - small fat filesystem supported by any OS, insert floppy and adf file show up, replace it with a different adf and it is written to the floppy. Just requires a system able to run the code and act as usb storage :)

Hi, I’m not, just don’t have the equipment, but am in touch with a group of people who are planning to be selling them in eBay in the new year

Yes, I still have parts for about 30 pieces left, I have sale thread in facebook "Commodore for sale"-group and in amibay http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?96557-Arduino-Amiga-Floppy-Disk-Reader-Writer-(V2)

It may be a few weeks before I can buy it. I might have spent too much money.
I bought a Arduino pro mini and UNO board last night.
Also bought FT232RL FT232 USB to Serial adapter module USB TO 232 For Arduino pro mini and a cnc shield.
I hope to hook it up next month.
