Amiga 500 keyboard causing black screen
« on: May 28, 2016, 04:03:00 PM »
Hola folks

I just received a PAL A500 with a rev 6A motherboard.

The included keyboard is defective in some way. When it's plugged into the motherboard, the machine boots straight to a black screen, power led lights up and no disk activity.

If I power it off and disconnect the keyboard and turn it back on, it powers up like normal.

I have swapped in another keyboard I have (from my other A500) and it works fine on this machine. So I know it's some defect with the original keyboard itself.

I am guessing perhaps one of the ICs on the keyboard pcb has gone bad. The keyboard is one of the Samsung types with 2 keyboard membrane connectors.

Ideas?

I'm guessing the reset line is grounded, either due to a short or the controller IC on the keyboard is bad.
