Arcade Evolution Amiga CD32 Version Need Help!
« on: June 16, 2014, 10:44:09 AM »
Hi

We are in the process of creating a version of our Arcade Evolution joystick for the Amiga CD32 and need some advice on various aspects of the new design, so would value the opinion of CD32 users here.

- The original standard Amiga version has 2x fire buttons so we will extend the width of the joystick now and add four buttons on the top, would you prefer the fire buttons staggered or in a grid formation, at present we have them staggered (see picture below)

- Are the CD32 joypad "shoulder" buttons important?  We could put a fire button on each side of the CD32 for Pinball type games?  Feedback welcome on ths

- Is the Pause button important to you?

- What colour would be preferable for the CD32 version?

Thanks for your help!

Wipeout 2097 uses the shoulder buttons for left and right brakes. But you need to press them using your index fingers.

Hi AmigaKit,

I'm a long time lurker here, and really glad to hear yourselves and Trevor have taken over Amiga.org

Just wanted to post my support for this! It's great news! I'm so pleased you have enough sales of the first version that you are producing a cd32 version.  Count me in as an insta buy for this one.

I've bought the usb 2 button version from you a few months ago and I love it. I'm too lazy to write a review, but I love the feel and responsiveness of it. The microswitched buttons are great and it certainly looks the peice. My only complaint is that the switch for the 2nd fire button could have been used as the "up" button, but hey ho.

As for the colour - the red of the original is gorgeous and so lovely.  When I have friends come round, they all want to grab it and play on it. It certainly is the talking point!

As an added bonus, it matches the colour of my favourite game just now, super meat boy (which totally rocks with this joystick). I love the staggered positions of the fire buttons.

I just have things from me, would it be possible to have both usb and normal 9 pin connectors in the same unit?  That way, I can use it on both my A1200 and my pc.

Yes, the pause button is very important, could I actually suggest two small buttons, that would make it ideal for things like mame emulation, and other console emulation.

As for the button placement, I can't say shoulder buttons on each side of the joystick sounds too good. I think I would struggle to move the stick with that placement.   I would go for a 3x2 grid, but staggered like on the original stick.

Would it be possible to put a rough texture material between the buttons?  I have some sticks with this on it, and it makes a huge difference when using more than 2 buttons. It keeps your fingers from sliding from the fire buttons.

Cheers AmigaKit, I really wish you success with this!

Just looking at just 2 of my titles, Gloom uses the shoulder buttons for strafing and Roadkill uses them for changing gears.  I'm sure most titles make use of the pause button.  If want me to look through more titles or fire up the CD32 I'm happy to do so.

Yes all buttons should be there, shoulder and the pause button included.

I'd personally like see it as similar to the original CD32 joypad as possible, at least definitely all the buttons colour coordinated. :)

Hi Amigakit,

Is there any update on this? Are you likely to go ahead and produce a 6 button version?

Cheers
