Help with CPLD Mach/Cypress CyberStorm MK3
« on: July 05, 2014, 07:10:58 AM »
I have a beautiful MK3 sadly with the Mach/Cypress rev0...

Rev0 mean don't work with my GRex 4000D, and have some small issue with overclocking...

I have a broken CyberStorm PPC from DCE here...

So, I have some questions :

1) All DCE CyberStorm PPC are build with the last Mach/Cypress rev4 ?

2) Mach/Cypress from a CyberStorm PPC are the same than the CyberStorm MK3 ?

3) My eprom programmator support these Mach/Cypress and I have the TQFP adapter : anyone have these Mach/Cypress rev4 .jed files ?

Thanks for any informations !

:)

I discovered some dirty things under the first Mach on my DCE CyberStorm PPC...

After some cleanup and wires, no luck, the two holes are wormy : no start at all I get nothing when power on...

Another question :

4) Is it possible to delock the Mach/Cypress for reading them on my eprom programmator ?

:)

I have a BlizzardPPC here 060@60 + 603e@300

I can sell it 800 € on eBay I guess...

So, I give these 800 € for the four rev4 Mach/Cypress files .jed by Paypal, IBAN or cash...

Probably not. Iirc from reading up on these many years ago they have a read-protect circuit which is literally burned out by the manufacture after the cpld is programmed. It can't be un-protected  - this scenario is exactly what the protection is there to prevent. :)

DCE/Phase5 would have wanted to protect the IP contained in those chips, so it's almost certain they will have protected them.

Good luck with that. :)

EDIT: Thomas Dellert has since passed away (RIP) so tracking down the files may now prove impossible anyway.

The read protect feature on MACH chips works basically the same as a GAL chip. The same is true for most other CPLDs but they often have different/proprietary methods for programming it.

Nothing is "Burned Out" in these EE chips but you have to erase the whole CPLD in order to reset the read protect function.

Nice piece of kit, damned expensive though!

/me rummages through geek drawer and by unlikely chance happens to come up with...

...a set of CPLDs desoldered from (iirc) a DCE Cyberstorm PPC. The PPC was non-working, possibly due to failure of the CPLDs, possibly failure of the PPC - it was undiagnosed.
I'd stripped the board and sourced a complete set of replacement buffer ICs, just never got around to measuring the values of the passive components and rebuilding it.

They've not been very well stored I'm afraid, so there are bent legs, but at least they have been stored in a sealed plastic container so they are clean and have been protected from ESD.

You're welcome to them if you want them, just let me know you're address. :)

@bwb: thats probably how all these ppc boards should be treated. dismantle them all, store under improper circumstances and finally send the remnants at an unknown addresses. we would be relieved of the insane prices and other annoying topics in an instant.
