Yes....good question! Can anyone please suggest a good sd/ff that is still commercially available? I am interested in one as well - even if it has to be from eyetech...

I have nothing against eyetech but I have to agree with Pete, this website they have is simply unacceptable - especially for a company that is delivering the next gen amigas....

I would have bought so many stuff off them had it not been for that awful website of theirs....you really have to get into the mindset of the 10-year-old who designed it and even then what you are really buying is almost a guess

I hope they do get their act together soon because I like their stuff

It seems Eyetech are no longer selling any Scan Doubler/ Flicker Fixers. Where else can you get one of these? Anyone know?

I got mine from Power Computing.

There are also usually a few on eBay. Search for items worldwide because postage for a SD/FF will be low due to the fact they hardly weigh anything!

As a last resort, you could try an external SD/FF, but these are analogue, whereas internal SD/FF's are digital and therefore much better, if you can get your hands on one. I've heard problems of external analogue SD/FF's "falling out" of tune, and some even take a while to warm up before they'll display a signal!

What Ilyama do you have, just out of interest? Mine's a Vision Master Pro 454 (19") and can't handle Amiga frequencies (at least I don't think it can!).

That just converts the connector, it doesn't do any scan doubling.. Meaning that you need to set the Amiga to display a VGA mode before you can connect your VGA monitor, also it doesn't work with games.

So is this the bees knees then? Will this allow me to finally use a PC Monitor using PAL Super High Res Laced with my A1200???? with NO horrible thick black borders? and also allow me to play ALL those old time favourite games. If this is it, then I'm going forrit...

Yes, that is EXACTLY the one that you want!
It's the one that I had too, and it was excellent!

Steven, is there any chance of taking a shot of your monitor screen with your Miggy on? What Screen Mode do you use? I'd like to see how small your icons are.

Thanx
Pete

Unfortunately, I don't have my SD/FF anymore, I sold it on eBay, along with my A1200, to finance my CD32 SX32 Pro!
But here's how I set up my A1200's Workbench display with it's SD/FF:

- Set the Workbench ScreenMode to "High-Res Laced", which is 640x512 if I remember correctly (I never use Super-High-Res Laced because it elongates everything!)
- Go into OverScan prefs, and stretch the screen as wide and tall as possible (unlike on an Amiga monitor, the extreme edges of the overscan display should easily be visible on the PC monitor, so that you can see what you're doing). Do the same for both graphics and text.
- Your screenmode will now be something like 710x570, or something "obscure" like that (ie. not a standard size).
- Use the monitor controls to centre the picture.
- Use the monitor controls to adjust the height and width of the display, so that the edges of the Amiga overscan screen are lined up with the edges of the PC monitor.

You will then have the biggest display possible in the highest-resolution! When you play games, you'll have to use your monitor controls to adjust the position, height, and width of each custom screen, but this should only need doing once for each screenmode.

If you want, I'll try and set up WinUAE tonight to mimick what the above screen would look like, so that you can get an idea of icon size, etc. I'll e-mail you a screenshot hopefully later thsi evening.

Steve.

PS. Are you in St Helens? (going by your e-mail address!)

Yes, well I spent 50 years in Parr, St Helens. But have lived in Ashton-in-Makerfield for a number of years.
Are you anywhere near?

I'm sat in an office in Alexandra Park in St Helens, right now, typing this!
50 years?! I think you're giving your age away!

Then you might like all these photographs I compliled.
I used to run a site www.sthelensphotographs.co.uk with hundreds of old and new photos which took me years to compile, I have climbed almost every high building and tower in St Helens to get these shots.
If you wish to see them all, you have to join the forum. Its the way it is now set up by the admin to get ppl into the forum.
My favourits are the Then & Nows which I did, I advertise the site on my van with photos transfered onto the rear doors.
Enjoy
Pete
