Well, the fun has begun with hard disks

I just tested the 80 Mb Conner SCSI drive, and yes, without autoboot the system runs, but when i boot some of the SCSI disk utilities(Supraboot, Supratools) the drive goes spinning continuously, like rebooting constantly. When the card tries to access the drive, it begins again to rebooting(the drive only, not the entire Amiga). That makes lock the amiga but if i let the drive spin off and on about 20 times or so, it unlocks.

I supposed that may be the 80 Mb Conner was faulty, so i'm doing tests now with a 4 Gb Seagate, without the re-spinning noise, but looking for all the addresses and units takes about 15 min.

I'm using a slightly modified Install Disk from Wb 3.1, I changed the SCSI.device TOOLTYPE to suprascsi.device(and also copied the file from the Supra disks to /DEVS on the WB install disk) at HDTOOLBOX Icon.

I can't by now test the drives on any other computer, but i will look out for a PC SCSI card from a friend for testing purposes.

Thanks Oldsmobile, but i've tried and perhaps my A2000 has any wrong by the leaked battery acid, but... it boots, and also games or anything that i've tested it's working(speaking of software, ofcourse  )

Regards!

@Fireb0y

Are you able to make disks from ADF?
If you do, I can make you copy of my Supra boot disk that allows to boot from floppy and then continue to  boot using the HD.
Worked fine last time I used it. I'm pretty sure I can find it somewhere.

I also would recommend that you should find yourself another SCSI controller, because this one sucks. Commodore A2091 is way better and has some Fast Ram on board too.
A500 KS 2.1, 1MB Chip, 68000
A600 KS 3.1, 2MB Chip, ACA630 32MB RAM
A1000 KS 1.3, 8MB RAM
A1200 KS 3.1, Blizzard IV 50MHz 64MB RAM
A2000 KS 2.1, 68030 25MHz, 6MB RAM
A3000 KS 3.1, 68030 25MHz, 16MB RAM
A4000 KS 3.0, 68040 25MHz, 16MB RAM
CDTV KS 3.1, 4MB RAM
CD32
(AROS BOX) Dead :(

Yes, I have a 4000 with IDE-CF adapter, so i can easily copy the files into the Compact Flash via Winuae, and then unpack on a real floppys using the A4000 internal floppy drive ;)

In a future, I will change the floppys on all my Amigas with Gotek emulators, or in this case will add them as a second unit ;)

I have downloaded the ¿Official? disks from amigaresource.cx, and i've tried to mess with it, without any good result.

Maybe you are right and i will get another SCSI, but i have to test my 2 HD before, so i can have at least one drive for mounting(if not it will be like buying a boat on the dessert  )

Thanks a lot for your reply!

Just a little update: I have now almost certified that the card does not work properly. With the SCSI utilities that i have tested(the ones from Supra, and also the Wb 2.1 HDtoolbox utility), the card takes about 2 minutes to pass between SCSI Id's. If no HD is connected, the system locks up on the SCSI Id inquire.

If I connect the 80 Mb Conner, then the drive spins up and down continously about 20-30 times between SCSI ID inquires, and make the system very sluggish. It takes about 20 min. to pass out all SCSI Id's. Also the system locks up if any requirement to the SCSI is done by the card, and doesn't recognise any partition created.

With the other HD that i have(Seagate 4 GB), it has almost the same results, except for the spinup noises. And the system locks also every 10 seconds, about 1 minute more or less.

I wasn't able to sucessfully partition or format any of the 2 drives, so i get on my hands an PCI SCSI card(Adaptec 2940AU) to test the drives on my own PC. The 2 drives work Ok, so my conclusion is that the card it's faulty somewhere.

There is some software to test the card to find any errors?

Thanks a lot and regards!
