Bounty time on MorphOS.pl
« on: October 02, 2013, 10:45:51 AM »
MorphOS.pl is happy to announce two new bounties. First one is to port open source Spotify client, called Despotify for MorphOS. Second project is implementing a PowerPC code generator for Webkit, allowing it to compile Javascript code into native PowerPC code. When bounty will be finished, this code will be implemented in the latest available version of Odyssey Web Browser for MorphOS. Also two latest bounty for Open XCOM port and Return to the Roots ports has been finished. If you wish to contribute to any of the bounties please visit our site.

I find interesting the Javascript JIT Compiler for PowerPC but I'd like to know if it's going to be based or integrated inside other major JS JIT... I mean: will it be a v8 port? I would prefer that the changes got integrated in a mainstream JS JIT as perhaps other developers could help to maintain it. A v8 PowerPC port could be interesting...

About the PPC JIT JS bounty: "Bounty taker is Mark „BigFoot” Olsen." Thats alone should make it pretty easy to raise the necessary money :)

IBM have already ported V8 to PPC so hopefully it shouldn't take too long to add it to Odyssey.

Answer from BigFoot regarding V8: It's for Webkit's 'JavaScriptCore'. OWB does not, and will not, use V8. V8 is a Chrome thing, not a Webkit thing.

Yes I asked Fab about his plans regarding the Blink engine not long ago and he said he would be staying with Webkit for Odyssey.

That pretty much confirmed no V8 for Odyssey, but back then V8 was for Webkit as Blink had not been forked at that point.

The TenFourFox PPC browser has a JIT and work is underway to port it to Leopard-Webkit.

I just donated 50 Zloty to the fund. Let's hope the total amount exceeds the minimum bounty requirement! :)

@nicholas&Stevo&pampers

thx for your answers, I thought JS JITs for PPC were non existant with the honorable exception of TenFourFox JS JIT.

Since chrome was based on webkit I assumed v8 would be easy to adapt to OWB.

Since the coder is BigFoot I'm sure the final result will be excellent.

Donated some bucks so good old Bigfoot can enjoy some pizzas.
