Amiga 1200: How to switch off Blizzard 1230 IV ?
« on: August 13, 2013, 03:19:24 PM »
Hi there.

I have an A1200 with a Phase 5 Blizzard 1230 IV accelerator card with AmigaOS 3.9 installed. Somebody told me that it should somehow be possible to switch on/off the card at runtime.

Does someone know more about that? Do I need additional software installed on the system? Which key does turn on/off the accelerator?

Many thanks in advance!

thanks for your answer. but this doesn't seem to work. I held "2" for the complete boot sequence, but when checking the system speed with SysInfo it still says that the accelerator is working...

That's strange!
Is your "2" key working good?
Also i hope you were not pressing "2" from the numerical keypad.

Hold the '2' key (NOT on the numpad!) right after a reset. Once the startup-sequence starts it's too late.

Also, you turn the Blizzard on again by rebooting and holding down Ctrl+Am+Am a full 10 seconds.

For a better result TAP the "2" key right after resetting. This way it always works for me with my BPPC.

It really is as simple as holding down the "2"-key for a few seconds immediately after Ctrl+Am+Am to turn the Blizzard off, and holding down Ctrl+Am+Am for 10 seconds to turn it on, but if you need visual indications then when you reboot the computer you will see horizontal blue lines flicker across the screen for a second, indicating the Blizzard is active. If you need a clearer indication just look at the top of the Workbench screen to see how much RAM you have, if it's only the 2 MB built into the A1200 then the Blizzard must be turned off.

I know you've solved your problem but here is a link to a pave that holds the manual in pdf format. You can keep it on your pc or print it for easy reference. has other interesting info in there too.

Has anyone ever managed to find a 128mb simm that actually fits on the board properly and allows you to close the trapdoor?? I've bought 2 simms and have been out of luck with both. Have to fasten them in with tie wraps and jack the amiga up on rubber feet. Looks and feels horrid.
