« on: August 27, 2013, 03:28:00 PM »
hi, i am purchasing an a1200 pal version.  here is what my upgrade path will be. and please help me figure out my best path

a1200 pal,
i am building a powersupply now for it. larger wattage and new,
want to run 3.1 or 3.9 with pfs3(have to figure out how to install)
sd to ide 44 pin (with a 32gb card)
pcmcia network card. (dont' really know what else to do with the pcmcia slot)
video upgrade, probably the indivision flicker thingy (dvi)
i have a 24in sun lcd monitor to use on it.
more memory and an accellerator of some sort, (looks like they have dried up suppy wise)
later i was thinking of a pci board and converting to a tower.

any ideas please comment
thanks

Sounds like a good plan.  I have Indivisions for both my Amigas and love them, would never go back to using an old fashion monitor again.

AmigaKit still sells new ACA 1220 and 1232 accelerators, both of which add 128MB of RAM.

You may want to read up on the motherboard timing fixes if you go the ACA route, but from what I hear they're pretty easy to do, or you can send your board to AmigaKit and they can do them also.  (if you need them)

Occasionally other types of accelerators pop up on Amibay or Ebay, as other users upgrade or clear out their closets.  ;)

Tried to post earlier but the site was down so might be repeating other posts now!

You can get brand new ACA1232/33 it's quite up to the task of running OS3.9 as you can see in my Video here:

I'm also using an Indivison AGA MkII.  My CF card is now 8gb, plenty of space for me, you can of course use 32gb, you can make your own custom Rom with updated scsi.device and BoingBag patches which you can load from image using the ACA's Maprom function.

As you want to run OS3.9 don't bother with plain Ram upgrades or 020/ram accelerators, you wont be satisfied with the results.

If you have the funds and want the best experience then the Blizzard 1260 would be the card of choice, be prepared to pay top dollar in the current market though.

I wouldn't bother with the 040 cards in an A1200 for me it's not enough speed vs the 1230 (IMHO) and the prices have gone quite high, you might as well save extra for the 1260 or enjoy the 1230

Networking is fun but not very useful for web browsing.  I use FTP & Wookiechat(IRC Client) mostly on my Amiga's and only open my web browser to grab files from Aminet.

No, after the fix your Amiga 1200 will work with and without an accelerator installed.
And no, they are not specific to the ACA series, they apply to all accelerator cards that require a fix.

As for the 040...a 40 MHz 040 card runs circles around any 030 card, but again finding an affordable one isn't easy. The 1232 @ 33 MHz is a nice card though... I have one myself. ;)
