Disable Indivision AGA output when using RTG?
« on: June 08, 2013, 03:52:59 PM »
Is there any sort of software that I don't know about that will simply turn off the signal of the Indivision AGA when in an RTG Mode?

The reason I ask is because the way my system is currently set up, I have the Indivision AGA MK1 and a Radeon Card (via Mediator).  I have two monitors, one for my main computer, and the other for my Amiga.  When I am using the Amiga, I turn off the dual-head display on the other one, and then my Amiga goes through VGA (the Indivision) and then DVI (Radeon).  Problem is, I have to manually switch between the two (on the monitor) when I use either AGA resolutions or RTG ones.

If I had something to disable the output, the monitor would automatically do it.  I also notice that the DVI connection doesn't send any signal at all until you switch to the RTG resolution, but then even after switching back to AGA it doesn't kill that signal, instead it leaves a huge gray screen.

Any ideas?  This would make the whole experience much smoother, especially if, when loading a game, the DVI would turn off, and the monitor when then automatically flip over to the VGA input.

CyberGraphX has an option to disable Native video when an RTG screen is front most. I imagine P96 has something similar, but I don't know if it will do so to the electrical extent required by your monitor.

Native/RTG switching has long been a neglected problem. The early graphics cards had built in switchers but later ones didn't. There have been a few hobby auto switchers, but none widely commercially available.

I have a similar "issue" with my A4000 setup, but to be honest, it doesn't bother me.

I have my Radeon card connected via DVI and the native output via VGA.  To flip between the inputs I have to press a button on the front of my monitor.  However, if I close my RTG screen completely it is smart enought to jump back to the VGA input.

I guess the reason it doesn't bother me is I still remember having to twist the A-B dial on my old VGA switcher box.  :)

The behavior is odd.  I do the same thing, I have HDMI1, HDMI2, VGA, DVI on my monitor (In that order), so if I disable my PC's connection, it then hops over to VGA (being the next one in line with an active signal) but since the Amiga is sitting in an RTG mode using DVI, all I get is a really dark grey with black borders on top and bottom, unless I push the button twice to switch to DVI (the button is the same as the 'auto adjust' if I just push it once, that's what it does).  But if I'm in RTG mode and launch a game, I have to push it 4 times to get back to the VGA input.  With all the back and forth, I just don't want the input button on my monitor to fall off :D

Hmm, as far as I know the Radeon driver is a tweaked CyberGrafX/3D, right?  (at least I recall having to do something funky with it when I first got my Mediator).  I wonder if there is something we can do about this..

Edit, I retract that, Radeon driver is a tweaked CyberGrafX/3D driver for Picasso96.  Not CyberGrafX which is a different API, if I recall correctly.

My monitor only has a DVI and VGA input which I guess makes things easier (so one push of the putton toggles between the two choices).
