Upgrading the OS when you have a Toaster
« on: January 26, 2004, 10:17:35 AM »
I'm in the process of resuscitating an A4000 Rev D that is running OS 3.1 and has a Toaster (version 4.1).  It's been a while since I've been doing Amiga things, so I need to catch up on a few matters.  Will upgrading the operating system to 3.5, 3.9 or 4.0 cause trouble  when I go to operate the Toaster?   As working with the Toaster is my main objective, I don't want to mess anything up in that area.   Thanks.

4.0 isnt available so I cant' speak on that.  But there were some issues with 3.5 and several 3rd party Toaster/Flyer plugins.   Most of them were addressed with the boing bags, and the one that isnt can be fixed by no placing the software in question on partitions larger then 4 GB.   I think 3.9 actually fixed the issue from 3.5 that was fixed in the Boing Bag, but the 4 Gig issue still is a problem for everything done by Ozware for the Toaster/Flyer.

I too have recently resurrected my Amiga/Toaster system.

I tried to install a Toaster4000 card into a 3000Tower under 3.5 w/no boingbags. When the Toaster install script came to open the window about how NewTek doesn't support some of the extra programs that ship with it, the the computer froze up and crashed. Upon reboot, the 3000T would Guru. Once I got the system up with the Emergency 3.5 disk, it appeared that there were no validation issues. Rebooting from the HD resulted in Gurus. Reformatting the boot partition and replacing 3.1 from a back-up partition the system worked fine with the VT2000 originally installed. However, installing the Toaster 4.1 software for the VT2000 under 3.5 os worked fine. I have yet to try and reinstall 3.5, the VT4000 card and 4.1 software to confirm if this is a hadrware/software issue or just some random fluke.  :-o

I did have the VT4000 and 4.1 software installed and running under os3.1, however, the VT4000 will not sync to an incoming video signal. Is the VT4000 card more sensitive to voltage variations than the VT2000 card?

asta for now...
