Is there any way I can identify an ECS equipped A2000 by the serial number or do I have to open the system up?

If the system is operational (and has 2.x or higher), you can run ShowConfig. It'll report if you have ECS Agnus and/or ECS Denise.

Piru's WhichAmiga might be able to help, too.
