HxC Floppy Emulator
« on: January 27, 2013, 10:13:12 AM »
I'd like to install an internal HxC in my amiga 1200. I'd like to assign the HxC as DF0 and the current internal floppy as DF1 for writing physical disks. Is this  relatively easy to do?

Also, I have a 4gig cf drive installed, an ACA 128 meg card, a amiga to ps2 mouse converter > ps2/usb > running a wireless 2.4ghz dongle and PCMCIA cf adapter,  all of which seems fine. If I perform the above mod, will the stock a1200 power supply still be sufficient?

Thanks.

You'd have to hack the drive id circuit on the motherboard so that it responds to df0 & df1. Then hack the internal connector so that when using a pc 3 connector floppy cable with a twist, that it passes the correct drive select to the right drive. Finally if you ever want to use external drives you'd need to hack the external drive connector so that drives start at df2.

I'll leave that to you whether you think it's easy or not.

Thanks, I think I understand. It is doable and I think it would be quite cool, although I must admit, logically, I have a tower PC right next to the machine and it would be much less hassle to throw a catweazel in that and a simple switch between the hxc and internal floppy in the amiga to switch from one to the other.

Some fellow Amigan done that in EAB some weeks ago.
Search the forum for some clues :)

If you look around ebay/amibay the odd floppy selector adapter turns up that does exactly what you want to do with no hacking :-)
