Commodore Amiga 1084S Monitor has High Voltage but no Picture
« on: November 04, 2012, 12:35:10 AM »
Hi. I have a 1084S monitor that I recently got for $1.00 AUD.
I never turned it on when I got it because the power switch was broken.
Searching for a while, I found the switch (PREH ME5A) on eBay: http://www.ebay.de/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemnext&item=221129582561.html
I soldered it all back up, and it is exactly like new now :)

After all that hard work, I gave it a clean, and then turned it on while it was all plugged up to my Amiga 500.
I found there was high voltage (I can hear the high pitch whine that all TV's make), but there is no picture. If I run my hand over the glass screen, there is no static.

I have used my de-soldering pump to remove the old solder from joints where high amounts of burnt flux have risen, and re-soldered them with new solder, giving the joints a good 375 degrees Celsius for 2-3 seconds to burn all the remaining flux off.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
