cd32 Promodule and cf hdd problems
« on: September 16, 2012, 08:43:47 PM »
Hey I have a problem with my promodule using a cf card as a hdd.
I bought the card from ebay with three partitions, one for WB and two for games and when i put it in the amiga boots to workbench no problem but the two games partitions (DH1 and DH2) shows up as NDOS and when I click them it says that they have no default tool?
I have checked the card on my pc with winuae and it works a charm.
If anybody knows what might be wrong it would be of great help.
I have little to no knowledge of the amiga outside of using it as a gaming platform and therefore I dont have a clue what might be wrong.
The promodule is stock with no upgrades except for an 8 meg fastram stick.

Hi,

IIRC the ide/ata Port in the Promodule is not a "real" IDE Port.
I think I needed a special Floppydisk to install the Harddrive.
But I am not sure, it was "some" years ago :)

Been a while since I played with my ProModule. And been a while since tinkering to any extent with Amiga file systems. I seem to remember the ProModule IDE having a unique driver.device to control it, not the normal scsi.device.  Perhaps it's a matter relating to that. Sorry I can't give more in depth help at the moment.

Perhaps have a tinker with HDTools/SnoopDos and see what you can work out?

Ok that sounds promising, do you have any recollection where you got the driver? Is it even possible to get a cf card working on a promodule?

Well the Disk was delivered with the ProModule. I looked at my dusted Floppy Collection and it is still there:

I dont know if it still readable and I dont have the Setup to try it right now, but maybe you can find an adf file of it somewhere ?

Hi,

I just reactivated my old CD32 and made an Image of the Floppy. It seems to be in a good condition, but I havent tried the Programs on it.

You can Download it from here .

BTW, have you removed the Battery from the Promodules Circuit Board ? It will most certainly have leaked and might destroy the board.

What is the best way to tranfer this file back to a disk? Or is there a way to just burn it to a cd and put it in the cd32?

Ohh and yes, I did remove the leaking battery, it had not made any contact with the board.

Download ADFBlitzer

extract the .lha file and burn a cd with the contents and the disk image.

BTW. the cd32 is a little bit unflexible with burned cds. Just burn a Data CD and make sure that the CD is finalized. cd32 wont read a multisession disk !

Ok I have now struggled with this problem for ages, I have tried using the cd32 shuttle disk but to no avail. It recognizes the hdd but with that prog which I suppose is some sort of specialized version of hdtoolbox lets you do nothing with the drive itself. If I diskpart clean the drive it doesnt pop up in the prog, if I use wb 3.1 to format the drive and completly set it up in emu using winuae it wont show the partitions on the wb but in the hdprep prog it will see the hdd and the partitions but you cant change anything like you can in wb 3.1 install for example set maxtransfer, mask or add custom filesystem? Now here is the kicker, if I use the 3.1 install disk on the real hardware with the hdd cleaned with diskpart I can somewhat set it up. I begin with setting up the partitions, it appears to be alright bu I cant use anything other than fast filesytem for eg. smartfilesystem as this will make the partitions dissapear on the workbench. If i just make them for eg. DH0-DH1-DH2 all under 2 gig with ffs they will show on the wb but I can only format DH0? The other two partitions no matter the size will always come back with an error message saying not a DOS disk and wont let me format? In order to even get this far I had to figure out by myself that I have to click the hdtoolbox and go to info and change the scsi device name to elsat.device much like you change it to uaehf.device if using winuae controller, in doing this it still fails to import the drive specs in hdtoolbox and I have to manually put them in? So what I am left with is the wb partition in ffs and I can put classic wb in to that and make it work via winuae but I can  not for the life of me get the drive partitioned either with the 3.1 install disk or from the hdtoolbox in cwb? I am at the end of my rope and I have exhausted all my options, I bought the damn thing because I dont know anything about the amiga except how to play on it, I had to peice all this knowledge together from diffrent forums but I cant, because of my limited time spent with the amiga, think outside of the box :( If anybody can solve this problem for me I will be very grateful, hell Ill even pay money for it. Or if someone that has a promodule could just answer me if its even possible to make it work or if Im just wasting my time?

I dont remember the details of HD Installation on the cd32 but I am sure it wasnt such a mess back then.
I think I just executed the hdprep program, formatted the HD (probably ffs) and installed AmigaOS.
But I just had a HD about 200MB big.

On a German Website I read that HDInst from Aminet might help configuring the HD, but I am not sure if the promodule HD Interface can even handle such big Harddisks ?
