Convert ScanMagic to FlickerMagic
« on: October 15, 2007, 04:59:38 PM »
Hi,

I have a DCE ScanMagic and FlickerMagic. As noted on this board and others the only difference, at least component wise, seems to be the RAM chips used for the flicker fixing aspect.

Assuming that it is possible to obtain the chips, would soldering them on upgrade the SD to a SD/FF? I have noticed what seems to be a JTAG port on the board, so am assuming some firmware would have to be updated to take advantage of the chips.

Has anyone done this?
Thanks

i have similar sd (made by elbox) and there are only jumpers inside

im still searching for two of those chips  8-)

Can anyone confirm the RAM reference of the FF please?

I know the thread is old, but do I need a 518222 equivalent or a 518221 equivalent?

Was the convertion succesfull?

Thanks

This might not be what you're looking for, but you could help me out:
I need to know the pinout of the DCE Scan/Flickermagic internal cable that goes from the module to the VGA module.
I'd like to know which pin of the board goes to which pin of the VGA port. I'm looking for years now, never able to get it right, so I still work with quite a bad scandoubler that does do something, but it still doesn't look right.
Thanks!

@VingtTrois: Not this one, I'm looking for the RAM chips that are missing from scanmagic, and present on flickermagic.

Real reference of the original chip is NEC UPD42280GU-30.

Not compatible with the oki one.

I ordered some, I'll tell you if the conversion works.

I prepare a direct cable schematic for the ScanMagic from SM to VGA without twisted cable or interface.

I will post it here also.

Soldering RAM chips isn't enough to convert ScanMagic to FlickerMagic. It does not fix interlaced modes.

It was expected, but I had to try...

If anyone knows where to get the DCE FlickerMagic mach content....
