Can I reinstall 3.9 without SD/FF?
« on: September 07, 2012, 05:09:50 AM »
I recently got hold of have an A4000 with CSPPC and CyberVisionPPC graphicscard.

The OS needs a reinstall badly but it has been so many years since my last A4000 with graphics card that I am ensure if I can reinstall when I do not have ways to see the original screen modes. I do not have a scandoubler at the moment and my monitor can not see modes with that low hz.

When I boot from the emergency floppy it works fine. It activates the CV screenmodes and there is highresolution. Will it do the same when I format my present workbench partition and make a standard reinstall? Or do I have to do something else?

Thank you in advance.
Booooiiiing!!!!

During installation you will be asked whether you want to copy the CD-ROM driver and settings from the emergency disk. If you select "yes", it will also copy the gfx card driver.

Anyway you should make a backup of your current system partition so that you can restore missing files later.

CVppc have a basic native graphics emulation.
You can reinstall the system with the monitor on CVPPC.
Do not expect more than PAL 4 colours but more or less works for emergency pruposes

No, you can't. As soon as you install the gfx card driver, you are lost because the gfx card only shows the boot logo and you need a native monitor to switch the wb screen to the gfx card.

Better go the way of the emergency disk with installed gfx card driver. This works with every gfx card, even without emulation of native modes.

But it pops up just after a reboot. Hopefully configured right...
(OK, doubleclicking the RTG monitor driver you can get it activated earlier)
