Can not get OS4.1 classic to boot from CD
« on: September 04, 2012, 07:46:40 AM »
I am trying to install 4.1 classic on my A4000 with CSPPC, CVPPC, Adriana netcard and Tocatta sound card.

The problem is that when I try to boot of the boot floppy with the CD inserted it boots the floppy and starts to search the CD, resets (as it should) and then starts to load from the CD again. The screen (on my CVPPC) however stays black and after a short while it resets again and start all over. And it goes on and on.

I have 3 HD's, 2 CD's and a ZIP-drive connected to the SCSI.

The systen boots OS3.9 fine from HD and form an emergency boot floppy also so that part works.

I have tried to start the installation of 4.1 from OS3.9 but the error is the same. Is it something with my SCSI setup? I have just bought the machine so I can not say in details how it was built and my SCSI-knowledge is rather low - to say the least.

The drives are as follows.

Units:
Board 0 - Unit 1 - IBM DRHS36D 0110 33,9GB - where I want to install 0S4.1 to
Board 0 - Unit 2 - CD-ROM PX-32-TS
Board 0 - Unit 3 - HP35470A (ZIP)
Board 0 - Unit 4 - CD-R PX-W124TS
Board 0 - Unit 5 - Seagate ST150176LW 0001 46,5GB - where OS3.9 is installed at the moment (boot)
Board 0 - Unit 8 - Viking II 4,5WSE5520 - planned to install MorphOS here

Any suggestions?

My PPC works fine. Can play WipeOut for ages without any problems.

Thank you in advance.

Have you changed the timeout settings on the scsi controller?
Hold ESC during boot and go into the scsi menu, the scsi controller should be on unit 6, can be mistaken there but you see where it is.
Just dubbelclick there and you see some sort of time out option, set that to the highest value and save and reboot and try with the floppy again.

I have the same problem with my set up.

I'm using a BPPC and a FastATA IV with a 4GB CF card on the primary channel and an IDE DVD/RW on the secondary channel.

The machine reboots, loads from floppy, then loads from CD, then reboots and repeats over and over.

I've disabled MAPROM and set RAM to 70ns as stated in the manual.

I'm not feeling the love... :(

Found the solution. Disabled MAPROM and set my rom til 60ns.

Installed fine and updated to update 5.

Looks very promising so far.

Thanks for the help :-)
