apollo 1230 turbo not working
« on: January 20, 2004, 09:29:35 PM »
hi, my apollo 1230turbo seems to be broken.
if i'm in workbench and i put the card it, the picture freezes. if i restart with the board still in the miggy, then it simply freezes at the white/beige colour of the workbench screen.

anyone know whats wrong with it?

thanks

p.s. there is a copper wire and a piece of metal both on the board, they both appeared glued/soldered on, i have supplied pics...

Uhm....  Hmm....  There must be a translation error here.  You didn't insert the card while the Amiga was turned on and at Workbench, right?  (Please laugh and say I read that wrong.)

From the description, it sounds like a bad Apollo card.  There seem to be a rash of them lately.  (Someone recently sell out an old collection of warranty returns?)

Hmm.....  For future reference, the only slot on any Amiga that is hot-swappable (able to plug in while computer is turned on and not cause possible damage) is the PCMCIA slot on the side of the A600/1200.  (Several ports, such as USB also are, but generally, unless it's a PCMCIA card, you probably should shut the machine off before inserting or removing anything.)

Now, you can also see the replies to the other threads here on mis-behaving Apollos.  Power supplies, RAM on the Apollo, jumper settings, etc, could also be causing you problems, if you managed to escape hardware damage, this time.  ;-)

ummm, i think i've found the problem.

my apollo card's battery had corodded

it seems to have leaked as well but there was a plastic protector thingy which seems to have kept in all of the "juices". i've removed the battery and the clip and if i can be bothered i might replace it one day.

when i insert the card, it gets as far as:

dwioooouuuuuuoiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
(hard drive spinning up)
drrrrrrrrrrrr dri
(hard drive reading to load up workbench)

and then instead of going:

clun-clunk (the two floppies checking for anything)

it just stops there, any idea's/any else had the same problems?
