Amiga 1200 over heat issues.
« on: September 01, 2012, 12:39:42 PM »
Well as some have seen in my A1200 project page I got heat issues with my Amiga when it's closed.
Specs:
ACA-1231/42MHz
Indivision AGA MK2
EIDE'99 buffered interface

I am quite sure the heat issues got worse after I added the Indivision AGA MK2, so I mounted an 40mm fan on top of the Indivision and after that it takes longer time for the AMiga to get to hot, when it gets to hot I get corrupted graphics and if I let it cool down for a while it works as it should.

So seems not the Indivision is the only felon in this matter, but what and why do it get to hot, that's the question.

If I put a fast 80mm fan on top of the closed Amiga blowing air down the vent holes above the keyboard these issues never comes so it must be a heat issue.

Anyone else noticed that the Amiga runs hot with an Indivision on it, the Alice and Paula gets quite hot by the touch also the chip on the EIDE'99 interface.

Should it even be needed to add extra cooling to those?

I would appreciate sugestions and feedback, I am thinking of mounting 4x 40mm fans inside the A1200 at the vent holes to see if it makes any difference, but before I want to hear if anything know anything about this, I am thinking something can't be right and then cooling might not be the best solution?

Running the Amiga like this with a fast loud 80mm fan on 12v and I get no issues at all, all works fine hour after hour.

Rhis is how im running the cooling of the Indivision:
