Amiga Users in Upstate/Central New York
« on: January 19, 2004, 12:22:33 PM »
Anyone interested (that lives in the CNY area),  in re-establishing an Amiga users group (probably unformal at first). I have lost contact with those that were active in this area and I figure with the changes - positive - changes I think we could share a lot of information. Maybe we could just get together quarterly, especially for those not-so-local. Maybe at a proper meeting location, or maybe at a bar/eatery. I'm in the Syracuse area - but I'd welcome to hear from anyone in CNY.

Interested?

I've only lived here for about 6 years (I grew up in Liverpool, NY; spent some time in Orlando, Florida; as well as lived in Phoenix, NY for a couple of years)

If we've met, you may have seen my goth-rock band "Zadoc...and the Nightmare" (formerly known as "Zadoc: Vampire Theatre") as we've been playing in and around Syracuse for the past 10 years or so. If you visit my website, there's all sorts of pictures up from past shows, promotional shots, etc.  We used (and still do for writing and arranging) Amigas for sequencing and even brought them along as part of our live act for a while.

Another band in the area (which are good friends of mine) 99ยข Special created their music on Amigas as well - Link

Interesting Zadoc, I've never seen you play live - but I have been to most of the places that you have played. I guess we never crossed paths. Take note of my email address. Would you be interested in getting together if a little group is established? Cool site too BTW.

Come on..there has gotta be more of you out there. Rochester? Watertown? Utica? I don't want this to be some
sort of organization - where you need to devote a lot of time Its just a few get togethers or at least a local Amiga/Peg help network? <--Awh..isn't that a warm and fuzzy.  ;-)

Thanks,
Debaser

Watertown! Keep going North. Your getting colder. Really, that's a good thing.

Hey Guys

I'm in NYC and there is still an Amiga "scene" here. There are 3 active user groups but the turnout is rarely over 15ppl. Check out the following sites:

(Queens User Group with links to others)

http://www.magneticsystemsnyc.com/

A New York Amiga dealer/repair center with lots of Amiga gear for sale! :)

You guys should come to the city for a meeting sometime.

Thanks for the info Magnetic. I do get to the city a couple times a year - maybe I will luck out and it will be during a meeting. I'll check the Queens User Group page from time to time. I think its cool that at least they are getting 15 people at a meeting...however I'm a bit shocked that its that not closer to 30 or so. User groups in general are a "dying" concept unfortunatly. But for platforms like the Amiga - I think they are much more useful at this time. Also - any vol. organization always  has problems getting memebers to contribute..or at least be motivated to do something. Its sad really. Thats why I proposed this to be informal gatherings (not unformal - hehe see my first post) anyhow.. I just figured it would make much more sense and probably not turn people off.
