What is needed to connect A1200 to VGA monitor

Please any advise on what I need to connect my A1200 to a VGA monitor? If possible give me links of places where I can find the connector that I will need. Thanks in advance for any help.

So do I need only the Amiga RGB to VGA Monitor Adapter, or something else?

The Amiga RGB to VGA Monitor Adapter does not perform any frequency conversion so if your monitor does not accept 15Khz signals, you will not be able to play most games.

If you want frequency conversion, the best option is the new Indivision 1200 MK2

You can buy an adapter that allows you to use a VGA Monitor, these are relatively cheap - However most VGA Monitors won't show a lot of Amiga Screenmodes as the scan rate is too low.

A lot of people use TV Monitors with a 23pin to Scart Cable which gives good results, also certain models of monitors will show Amiga screenmodes.

You can also buy a board which plugs onto the chips inside your A1200 and will convert all modes to a DVI Connector, some older models have a VGA Connector - These are known as Scandoublers or Flickerfixers - The Latest Indivision models are great as they work very nicely with LCD Monitors, whereas some older units don't always bump up the scanrate quite enough.

options:

1: RGB to VGA adapter. If the monitor does NOT support 15 mhz, this only works with your 1200 set into VGA mode. Most games won't work, but a surprising handful will, or can be promoted with a utility like modepro.

Cheapest option, least compatible.

2: RGB to VGA adapter plus monitor like ST2320 or similar. There's a handful of monitors (I have one from Dell) that do support amiga screen modes. You'll still need the above adapter.


3: External scan doubler. These vary in price and quality. I had one for some 100 dollars or so that was decent, if a bit unimpressive. Works with most any monitor though.

4: Indivision or similar. These go inside the amiga, and will let you connect to most any monitor as well.


Note that none of these options will be perfect, but they are mostly all quite usable. Indivision or a compatible monitor are the more expensive options but they will also give better results.
