Amiga 3000/CV64 corrupt pointer?
« on: June 07, 2012, 07:20:39 PM »
Hey all,

I've got an issue ion my Amiga 3000... I've installed a new HD in my Amiga 3000 via an acard IDE-SCSI bridge... formatted, installed OS 3.1 and then I upgraded to Amiga OS 3.9 boing bag 2..  everything is working quite well, the machine has a Cybervision 64 gfx board so I installed Picasso 96 from http://lilliput.amiga-projects.net/Picasso96.htm, it works quite well however the mouse pointer shows two vertical lines, in a previous install I tried CybergraphX 4 and I had the same issue (even with the latest patches)... sorry if this has been dealt with before but I couldn't find any useful thread.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the problem?

The machine has a Cyberstorm MK II, 128 MB RAM with upgraded Chips: Ramsey 07, Superbuster 11, SuperDMAC 04 and WD SCSI 08.

Comments/Suggestions welcome!

Thank you!

I don't have a solution but a suggestion as I've had problems after boingbag2 and Cybergraphx.
Did the problems exist before os3.9/BB2? if not, try disabling features in prefs/warpos.
 It worked for me.

Thanks for the suggestion, but... yep, the problem exists even before installing boing bag 1... :-(

My guess is that it's related to the RTG software. What sort of config options does P96 have either for itself or for the CV64?

Hi Dragster how's it going, you've been quiet.

I know this might sound silly but if you have a 3.1 boot floppy and a floppy drive does the problem exist when booted from that?  Alternatively did you notice if the problem existed in the 3.1 install phase?

That should remove Agnus and Denise from the equation.

Cheers

Dragster.

Its a software issue.

I have the same hardware on an A4000.  Use CGX 4 update 6, its better on that hardware than P96: faster, more amiga-like feel to the pointer movement and icon dragging.

I have seen this before in CGX and I found it was due to saying "yes" to one of the options in the installer, which BTW is the most badly-worded installer in the history of computing.  So much so I can't remember what that option was!
But there are some settings in CGXPrefs that you may need to adjust as well

Also I found that a 15/16 bit mode gave the best compromise between memory usage, dithering, speed and stability.

I have a similar set up, and a3000 with a CV64/3d (not quite the same) a 3640, a zorram, and a a2065.
I have 3.9 all the lilliput amiga software installed up to the through the unofficial boing bags 3 and 4, and lilliput version of picasso 2.1c

it all works quite well for me.  In fact picasso 2.1c seems to be very stable and fast with the CV64/3d.

I had picasso96 2.0 on the system with the CV64/3d.  This combo was very slow and would have odd artifacts like you are mentioning (with the pointer) also the screen would have a graphic tearing effect when resolutions were changed).

The CV64/3d is just different enough from the CV64 that mileage may vary.

I had a similar problem with my CV64 card.
I got rid of it by swapping the card to a different Zorro slot.

Yep, I believe it's a software issue... funny thing that happens the same with both RTG software CGFX and P96... I'll check on the options.

hey Gertsy... yep, been kind of busy lately and sometimes there's not much I think I can comment on...  :-)

I've booted from the floppy disk to wb 3.1... and no, the issue does not turn up when there WB screen is not RTG...

I installed 3.1 before yep.. but... I didn't install the RTG software before I upgraded to OS 3.9.. so I can't comment on that but sounds like a good test.

Cheers,

Dragster.

Thanks for the suggestion mate... well, the installer certainly is not a goo don e on helping the user making good decisions.. I'll check on the options and variables on CGFX to see if one of those has a positive effect on the pointer gfx.

Cheers,

Dragster

Hi there. Now this sounds interesting... and it's an easy one that doesn't involve software configuration... I might just try this this evening..

Thanks for the suggestion!
