OS3.9 with WinUAE cache CDFS error message
« on: April 07, 2012, 07:09:01 PM »
Hello

I have tried to use a pre-installed Amiga OS3.9 hardfile ( hdf ) that I found on the web, with WinUAE in my PC.
Sometime ago I had a Pentium 4 with nvidia FX 5500 graphic card and I could use that pre-installed hardfile without any problem.

Now I have changed my computer for a Pentium dual core with a nvidia GT 430 graphic card ( so I upgraded the graphic card ) and whenever I launch WinUAE using that OS3.9 hardfile I get a message saying "CACHE CDFS" "cannot open "uaesci.device" unit 3" and then "Intuiton is attempting to reset the Workbench screen. Please close all windows, except drawers". When I close those error messages windows, the Workbench appears but in a very low resolution and 8 bit colors, although I have my screen preferences saved as uaegfx 1024 x 768 16 bits PC, ( this resolution worked with no problems on my previous computer ).
Is this a problem with the CD rom ? I have only 1 DVD rom in my computer.
I have also "UAEscsi.device" checked in WinUAE. The CDFS cache in Amiga OS 3.9 Workbench shows CD0, CD1 and CD2, should it be only CD0 instead ? can I edit this ?
I don“t know how to get rid of these error messages when Amiga OS3.9 starts and I am a newbie in this. Could anyone help me please ? Thanks in advance!

Did that hardfile come with a configuration for WinUAE (a .uae file)?  If it did I think you'll find that the config file in question is not entirely compatible with the latest WinUAE which you would of course be using now.
Do you have the original unmodified hardfile so you can have a clean install of 3.9?
Sounds like it may be customised to your prior pc's drive configurations (if using the exact same hardfile).

Hello. Thanks for reading my post. I finally fixed the problem myself. The reason for the error messages was that I had CD0, CD1 and CD2 all together in DEVS: Dos drivers, when there should be only one, say CD0. I left only CD0 and now it works fine!

But now I wonder how can I use AmigaOS 3.9 to listen to music CD. I checked and the sound works well, but when I launch a CD player program within Amiga Workbench I get an error message saying that I have to assign a CD unit in order to listen to a CD rom, so I have sound through WinUAE program ( example I can listen to scores in Deluxe Music Construction Set ), but I cannot listen to a music CD that I put in the DVD rom of my PC, how can I fix this ?

Yes, you'll have to assign a device name and a unit number for said device.
Device name will be "uaescsi.device"
Unit number should be "1" or "2". Unit numbers start from 0 (which I presume will be your hard drive) so my guess would be unit 1, or 2 if you have 2 hard drives. You won't hurt anything though if you input the wrong unit number, so don't worry.

Unit Number must be 0,1 or 2. Number 3 is CD4.
uaescsi.device doesn't work with harddrives.
