Getting stuff onto emulated Mac
« on: March 23, 2012, 10:45:43 AM »
Whenever i copy stuff to CD using my PC and try and read it on the emulated Mac it won't see the files.

If i copy them to CF i can see the files but they don't run and the icon on the Mac says PC. I tried to get stuffit with the extension either HQX or BIN.

Am i doing something wrong?

Oh boy... This is going back to the really bad old days of MacOS, right?  Like OS6 or 7?

Ugh...  There are a few issues.

First off, I don't think those early MacOS versions recognize a Juliet FS CD.  You need to burn it as an old school true iso 8.3 character file name format.

Next, I think there were some non-binary translation issues between Mac and PC.  You'll need to be careful, as the files will get mangled if they aren't properly identified.

And finally, read up about the resource and data forks for MacOS.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resource_fork  They're a pain in the ass, and your files may be losing part of their identity in the transfer if the Mac isn't properly identifying and rebuilding the forks.

Good luck, and have fun*

(* for very poor definitions of fun.)
