RTG with Stock 68000 - Possible?
« on: March 08, 2012, 10:44:20 AM »
I just bought a Picasso II 2MB which hopefully i will receive soon for my A2000.

Currently it has the stock 68000 7.09Mhz CPU & a GVP Impact HC +8 with 8MB of fast ram and a 1GB SCSI drive. I also have 1MB Chip ram and Kickstart 3.1.

I should soon also be getting an A2630 68030@25mhz accelerator with 2MB ram.

I expect the Picasso II to arrive quite a while before the A2630.

So while waiting for the A2630, would I still be able to install, setup and use the Picasso II and still see a HUGE improvement in colors, resolutions and speed while still on the stock 68000 7mhz CPU?

Also, am i right in saying that I will have to configure my HC +8 to 6MB instead of 8MB to allow the Picasso II to work properly?

Apparently the Picasso II doesn't need anything more than the 68000, though newer version of Picasso96 might. Worth a shot anyway. As for the memory, that would make sense since the Zorro-II memory space is limited to less than 10MB, so you need to free up some space for the Picasso II's memory...

Perhaps old EGS system works. P96/CGX won't.

The old Picasso software will work - used it first with my towerized A500 and Picasso II+ until upgraded the processor.

Not Picasso96 but Picasso is the name. http://amiga.resource.cx/install/PicassoII-24.dms
or http://www.l8r.net/install/video.html (driver + extras) - can't see which one is newer.
...ok, seems that my version was 2.4.

Thanks! That will have to do for now till the CPU is upped to an 030.

Will it still work like Picasso96 as in with the same RTG resolutions ?
