How to install virtualCD
« on: January 24, 2012, 07:31:20 AM »
I am having trouble getting virtual cd working. I have the resource.library 44.10 installed and it still complains cannot open resource.library. I have installed into my system workbench 3.1 and I want to be able to use the virtualcd so I can install my os35 on it and get it up and running the way I wanted it. Can anyone help me please get virtualcd working? I even copied the gadget from the cd and it still complains...I used the PC to copy the files into the pcmcia cf card in case someone is asking how I did it. Any help would be greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance

resource.library needs the rest of OS 3.9, too.

Here is an easy to use solution to install OS 3.9 from an ISO file located on the CF card:

http://thomas-rapp.homepage.t-online.de/Start.zip

Make sure that the ISO file is called AmigaOS3.9.iso and is located in the root directory of the CF card. Then unpack the zip file to the CF card, too.

On the Amiga insert the CF card and double click the Start icon. Now the OS 3.9 icon should appear on the desktop. Run the OS 3.9 installer and create an emergency boot disk. Before you reboot run the Copy_Files script from the CF card. Now you can reboot and the emergency boot disk should load OS 3.9 from the ISO on the CF card.

You could also try DiskImage.device to mount the ISO of 3.9 on your WB and install it from there on.

EDIT: also don't mix 3.1 with too many 3.9 components, it won't work in the long run. Been there, done that...

I just want one more help Thomas. I have a 20 GB HD, but the HDtools cannot see it, it only see 4 GB or 5 GB maximum but it cannot see the remainding 20 GB. How do I make it see 20 GB? Please I have the files Smart File System in a directory, how do I format the HD's with the file system Smart File System for all of them? I preferred the Smart File System or the old FFS thanks in advance.

I also want to see all the 20 GB HD as well. i have kickstart 3.1 and OS 3.9. Any help would be greatly appreciate it. Can I install the smart file system from the emergency disk and can I see all 20 GB from the emergency disk? If so, how do I do it? Thanks again.

4 or 5 GB is strange. Without OS 3.9 it should see 7.8 GB and with OS 3.9 it should be able to see the entire drive.

Nevertheless try this: http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/fixhddsize

Regarding SFS, you can install it from everywhere. I am sure there is documentation somewhere.

Short version: run HDToolbox, select drive, goto partition drive, add/update, add new, select smartfilesystem file, overtype identifier by SFS dostype (0x53465300 IIRC), click ok, select a partition, click on change and change file system to SFS. Repeat the latter for each partition.

I think you might need an updated OS3.9 system for HDToolBox to work correctly. I might be wrong.  I saw that a couple of months ago when trying to install OS3.9 (using WinUAE) on an old 300GB hdd of mine that I found.  After HdToolBox did not see the hdd size correctly, I tried configuring it with boingbag1+2 updated Amikit installation of mine and it read the geometry of the hdd properly.  Plugged the hdd to my A1200 (with FastAta1200) and everything worked perfectly. Then I found that the big partion I made after the first 3.9gb part was full of bad sectors and the hdd got stuck trying to write some files when copying a large iso file.

That's why I'm looking for an unused 500gb or 320gb IDE hard drive at the moment.
