I paid £750 for mine and that was a few years ago. Saying that it does have some quite special kit inside... I also managed to get an unused spare case just in case I broke that door off the front.

Ended up de-soldering the bad battery off this 4000T and replaced with one of these hooked to the motherboard's ready-to-go-connector:

I also installed a SCSI CF card reader purchased from Mech (www.a4000t.com).
 
Finally, I found that the CPU heatsink was alarmingly loose on this machine.  I took the drive bay out and removed the heat sink.  Bent the spring a bit so that it would make a tighter fit, cleaned the CPU/heat sink and applied some new thermal compound, and now it's tight as a glove.
 
I purchased a Dell ST2421Lb off of walmart.com ($199 new) which works pretty well so far with the 23-pin to VGA adapter.
