The 4MB kipper upgrade looks tempting. I wonder if my HDD would be in the way though.

Yes, with the Kipper2k 4MB memory expansion for the A600 the HDD cradle and upper RF shield both need to be removed. Most people like to use CF cards so that's no problem anyway. Me on the other hand, I secured my hard disk with just two screws directly onto the two RF shield tabs (there's two tabs towards the back left of the A600...part of the lower shield).

Then I'd recommend getting a PCMCIA wireless card or a CF adapter to solve your file transfer issue.

Very slow, slower then floppy drive, why torturing yourself?

I agree.  Null modem cables are crap slow for file transfers.

If I wanted to network my PC and Amiga together cheaply I would just use a PARnet cable which I have had since 1980s.  If u lost urs then you can buy a new one.  PARnet is something like 8x faster than serial cable.  It is quite useable.

I would recommend either the CF Card transfer method or the PARnet method.

You are supposed to use your serial port to run a NULL modem cable from your A600 to your other A600 so you can play Stunt Car Racer in head to head 2 player mode, or Lotus Turbo Espirit in 2,3 or 4 player mode.

Only Amiga Makes it Possible(tm) :D

Hmm... I had no idea parallel cable transfers would be so slow. A wireless PCMCIA card was tempting, but I figured I’d have trouble setting it up or connecting to WPA2. (I can't remember what I based that on). I'll have to look for those shield tabs, I never considered an alternative location for the HDD. Cool.

Serial = slow
Parallel = fast

CF Card = Phantasmagorically Fast

If u do the CF card thing then you can pick out your 1000 WHDLoad games, copy them all on *BAP* then pull the card out and plug it into your A600.  DONE.    Its a great way to transfer huge amounts of data fast.
