should I trade my A2000 for an A4000
« on: October 16, 2011, 03:28:21 AM »
I got my A2000 from the television video production department of a company that also had an A4000, both set up to be used with Video Toaster.  I wanted both, but the only one I could have at the time was the A2000.  The opportunity has arisen to literally swap out my A2000 for the A4000, a newer machine that's in better condition, and if I'm not mistaken, it also has a CD-ROM drive in it.  Both are fully functional.

Should I do it?

^It's one of these.  I'm not sure about the specific model it is, but it's one of these.  The picture is from old-computers.

Yes, but first make sure the battery on the A4000 hasn't leaked much.

...actually, I'd trade an A2000 for any working A4000, battery damage or not.

Yes do it!  Even if the A4000 needs work, it is a better platform to build on IMHO. Probably less compatible than the 2000 with older games though.  I have several 2000's I would sell as I am sure others here do as well if you ever need one.

I can't think of any reason NOT to do the trade.  The A4000 is a better and faster machine.  Having AGA is a bonus where you can run programs that you couldn't before.

Go for it!
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

Seems a no-brainer to me.

yeah, unless there's something wrong with it, I can't see any reason not to.

You get AGA, more chip RAM, ide interface, 040 as standard and zorro 3.

Well the 2000 has some advantages. It is better build than the 4000, has more space, more slots, a better PSU and is more Amiga looking than the A4000 that looks like a PC case.
