Although it's kind of cheating, you could use TwinVNC to bring up a Linux desktop on an Intuition screen and use some Linux IM client. I run a couple of TwinVNC instances on my A1200 so I can browse the web with Opera on one screen and have movies playing on the other. For chatting it's very usable (not so much for videos but still fun to watch and drag screens down over each other while it's all running).
Amiga user forever.

I'll have to check that out. How hard is it to get setup ?

hm, I downloaded twinVNC, and an VNC server app on the linux side, but I get TCP/IP stack cannot be found, when I launch twinVNC on the amiga.

However, Ibrowse is able to connect to the internet just fine. Suggestion ?

I tried connecting with AmiTCP and got the same message, but it works fine with Miami DX. Miami DX is free now and the keyfile was provided to the community so it's well worth installing and using as your primary TCP stack until Roadshow comes out.

huzzah. posting this from google chrome through vnc. its kinda slow, but ill mess with it more.

thanks guys!

edit: only downside is that my machine freezes when closing miami but eh, not too big a loss to reboot when i log off.

second edit: jabberwocky totally works with miami as well. The interface is pretty much insane, but I managed to get it working after a while too for google talk.

Googletalk requires TLS security and unfortunately Jabberwocky doesn't provide (or didn't provided) that.

-edit- what? tell me what settings did you use, please (perhaps ssl has to be disabled in gmail preferences?)

I had to hunt for a server that worked for it. The one that worked was jabber.iitsp.com for me.

Im using the 1.9 beta version so I dont know if that makes a difference to older versions.

Without going into the morals of distributing warez, MiamiDX author certainly didn't provide the keyfiles you link to.

If you want to use Gtalk in Amiga OS 3.x

1) Download Jabberwocky http://jabberwocky.amigaworld.de/
2) Registed a Jabber account here: http://jabber.iitsp.com/
3) Login using this new account
4) Go to Jabberwocky's "Windows" menu and select the "Agents" option.
5) Select the GTalk Transport and login there with your gmail account id: name@gtalk.com password: gtalkpassword
6) A suscription to
gtalk.jabber.iitsp.com will appear.
7) Enjoy Google Talk
