HIGHER RESOLUTION
« on: January 04, 2004, 10:07:41 PM »
Hi All,
I have been updating my A-2000 with hardware and software.  I have a DKB Flicker Fixer and a Video Toaster.  As the toaster takes the video slot I am somewhat limited to what I can install to enhance the video resolution and output.  Software Hut has something called a ToastScan but I have no idea if it will solve my problem.   When I installed OS 3.9 the first thing I noticed is that the graphic background, (get boinged), on the workbenck screen was really bad looking.  My question is, can I do anything to increase the resolution of the platform?  I have a Multi-sync monitor so that is about as far as I can go with that.  Because the Toaster is my use for the machine this is not the worlds worst problem but it is a bit annoying.  At least I need to get rid of that nasty looking background if there is nothing else I can do.  You can look at the TostScan product at http://www.softhut.com/cgi-bin/test/Web_store/web_store.cgi?page=catalog/hardware/accelerators/apollo_scandoublers.html&cart_id=249388_18912

Hi,

your flicker fixer allows a std monitor to be used but gives you
no higher resolution. Ths is great for Amiga only screens but to
get higher res maybe look @ the Spectrum card. this will give you
tru-color graphics on non Amiga only screens with a pass thru for
FF/SD for Amiga screens and has an auto switch to togle between
the two.

Hi DGB,
Had the same problem with my A2000.  The screens looked "Crappy" to say the least.  Solved that by getting a graphics card, mines's a CGX64_3 d.  It's in the "Bits", 8 bit graphics looks bad, 16 or 24 bit looks "Great".  Took me a while to figure it out, but, it's worth it, believe me.  Best regads...Art

Hi Art,
Could you be a bit more specific about the card you bought?  What slot does it go in?  Where did you find/get it?  I notice you are in Michigan.  I am in S.E. Ohio so we are not all that far apart.  Possibly your source would be OK for me too.

Hi Chris,
Could you be more specific about this card and where did you get it?  How much does it cost?

Hi DGB,

The Cybergraphics 64 3D is also a good card. they are both ZorroII or III with auto sensing.
niether one has a part that must go to video slot like PicassoIV, thats the FF/SD part.
I don't know if the CGX64 3D has a pass thru on board but maybe. Both are also available at
Software Hut. www.softhut.com .

Good Luck

Chris
