Just tried to install my new used Retina Z3.. No Dice.. Help!
« on: January 05, 2004, 04:31:21 AM »
Hi all

I hope some of you all can help me. I just aquired a Retina Z3 RTG video card. I have never had a video card in my miggy before -  so dealing with configuring it might be my only problem. Since I have been spoiled with my a3000 with a 1949 commodore multisync I've never really have to tweak anything. So here goes...

The card..for all respects is in suburb shape. I also have the addon switchbox..but haven't used it yet because I assume its not ness. for operation. I installed the Z3 card and that ok.. Then I installed the software and that was pretty simple really. What happens is once everything is installed I plug in the 1949 multisync to the Retina 15pin connector and all I get its a black screen. I go back to the internall a3000 video connector and it boots ok at first. Once it gets to loading RetinaEmu it makes my mouse pointer freeze and makes it flicker slightly.

So... I unplug the Retina card and reboot. Workbench is fine..(of course it gives me a message that Retina hardware isn't detected) and I can go about my merry way. I go to the Retina tools drawer and look at my RetinaScreenMode pref. and I get a recoverable guru due to my lack of the Retina card plugged in. It recovers and lets me check it out. Seems nominal.

I donno..this is where I'm stuck. Can anyone help me out!?!?!
Gosh I'm assuming I'm being an idiot about something..I really hope its something simple. Help!

My system config consists of:
A3000/030 16megs OS3.9. Commodore 1949 Multisync monitor.

Thanks in advance!

ok debaser first thing you have to do is get rid of
that outdated retina software.
and post your email also.

make sure all of the libs./ devs for the retina emu are gone also.
now go back to your os3.9 disk it has a free setup for
cybergfx system some thing like version 3 if you want the
latest cybergfx system I would suggest cgfx 4 version 3 and 4 have drivers for
the retina z3.

get you a svga monitor for test and have your multisync on the amiga side and one pluged
into the retina z3 when you have everything installed and rebooted go to your sceenmode
prefs and you should see cgfx sreen modes alot more. if you select one of these screen
modes your screen will go black if you have a svga monitor pluged in your retina z3 you
will see your wb. if not you still have some retina emu crap hanging around. once you
save your new sreen mode and adjusted it all your a3k will boot up on the retina z3.

easy

have any problem email me I went through what your doing about 2yrs ago

calk@cox.net

a3000/26megs/retinaz3/20inch monitor/cgfx4/6gig hd

cable modem
etc. etc. can I cram any more in this a3k you bet I can....

Calkster:

Ah...that's why I mentioned os 3.9 I figured there was something to it. I know from reading posts on there that cybegrfx is the way to go..but I figured to just see if the thing would work it would be ok to try. I will give what you said a go.
